Parra always had good defence from 1997-2001 in the last couple of years it has been getting out of control though.

If we can improve our ball control, our defense will be a lot better (and attack too :D )

So if we learn not to drop the ball so much, we'll tackle better.

How does that work????

We need to fix up our defence a great deal letting in so many excess points is uneccsary and hinders out f & a which could be a factor with where we finish come the end of the year

Its not the sole answer, but is part of the solution.

If we hold the ball better, and stop giving away so many penalties, we wont be putting our defence under as much pressure as we currently are.

Also Dykes kicks put us under alot of pressure. Whats with him constantly having his kicks charged down? Those stupid chip over the tops are no good 99% of the time either. Better off kicking long and getting good field position.

I agree also - controlling the ball more means you have more of it - thus less defense.....dropping it avery 3rd time you have it, especially close to your own line, and you are scrambling around all game trying to hold the other team.

I still don't get why we don't gang tackle.

Gang Tackles wastes a lot time as there are more people to get up off the ground. This allows the other defenders to set themselves to charge up from the 10.

We tend to tackle in two's. With quick play the balls, our guys seem to struggle back the 10 and then the attacking team gets a good roll on.

In soccer Brazil has the best offense in the world. They are the worst defence in the world. In same case Italy can be termed as one of the best defence but poor offence. We have to decide which way Eels will go. We can play expensive game and score twice compare to opponent so that we can take the game away or we can be the best defence and concentrate on the defence.
I guess this does not work out that in footy.

Brazil does not have the worst defence in the world. Thats possibly the worst call I've ever heard on this forum. There are about 200 nations that compete for the Soccer World Cup and beleive me Brazil's defence is in the top 10 for sure. It's just that their attack is so good that you don't notice how well they can defend.

Soccer & League are two completely different types of games so you can't compare anyway.

They possibly make the Top 10 in Defensive Capabilities, but they are foremost an attacking team. Players like Roberto Carlos and Cafu (now retired) where defenders which thrived on counter-attacking.

Whilst it is true that League and soccer are different, their fundamental philosophies are similar - the best defense is a strong offense.

If we stop dropping the ball and stop giving away dumb penalties, we can beat anyone. Our defence is not THAT poor.

I noticed on a few occassions thus far this year where we put in a deep kick, keep the opposition pinned in their 30 for the first three or four tackles and then give away a stupid penalty.

Control our ball security and discipline and we'll be right.

OUR defence near our line is pathetic , just ask cane kleal, who would not play first grade with parra cause he aint good enough, according to bs,who crashed over for a try and numerous others who sense no urgencey close to the line, when parra defend. Admittedley it has improved the last 2 games , but needs much more if they are to be real contenders

Defence obviously needs to improve but is there a club in the competition who hasn't got room to move in this area? There's hardly a club who hasn't received a touch up already in the season and I think its back to the days where if you give the opposition the ball, there's a better than even chance there going to put on a try due to the quickness of the play the balls at the moment. I have every confidence in Smith that he'll get this part of the game right by the time in matters.

As if Italy has a terrible attacking ability with Veiri, Totti, Del Peiro and Inzaghi, pull your head in!!!!
