Dennis Fitzgerald's Comments

I’m Sorry to say this but you CEO Dennis Fitzgerald has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

To say the Melbourne Storm should move north from a CEO of a National Rugby League club is a contradiction in itself. How can you have a national competition without having a team in the Sporting capital of Australia?

He has no idea about the passion and loyalty of the fans that go to the Melbourne Storm every weekend. And I can assure that if Parramatta has the weather conditions of Melbourne which have been at the last two home night games (below 10 degrees and raining) you would not get more than 8000 people turn up, which is what Melbourne is averaging at the moment.

Someone should tell your boss that it takes years and years to get decent crowds, etc. The Sydney Swans had average crowds of about 3-5000 for about 10-12 years in the 80’s, and the AFL kept pumping money in and look how the swans are going know. Your CEO has no conception of anything whatsoever.

Ile tell you what I am going to this weeks game at Parra game and if I see Dennis around god help me I will give him a mouthful.

All he has achieved is firing the Storm up.

Tell the fool to keep his mouth shut.

Storm 1999.

Yeah were trying to look for someone in Melbourne.

We need to a born and breed Melbournian who knows the town and how to get to the people and bring in that extra couple of thousand of people that we need.

But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

What Parramatta?…I think its time you get a new CEO.

Sporting Capital of Australia?

During the Easter Period the following Sports were happening in Sydney

11 NRL games, including the Grand Final Replay
A Super 12 Game
2, AFL Games
The Golden Slipper
The V8 Supercars
The NBL Grand Final, Which was an all Sydney Affair.
The NSL Grand Final
The Netball cup
The Telstra Swimming Trials

And to top it all off we had the Easter Show.
With all the log chopping and all.

Sporting Capital of Australia don't make me Laugh. What was Melbourne doing during those weeks? Watching us!

I actually agree with Dennis, The NRL's strengths are NSW, QLD and some parts of New Zealand. If News Limited were not pumping money into the Storm they would have been financially crippled years ago. At least if they relocated they would have the opportunity to be self sufficent.

The Daily Telegraph were obviously just looking for a story when they published today's article. Fitzgerald didn't say anything he hasn't said before. The journalist was probably just trying to add some heat for this weekend's football game, make it a bit more fired up. Denis, stupidly, played right into their hands.

What he said was straight to the point, No good beating about the bush. Too many bullshitters in the game now.
You mob of sheilas can't hack the TRUTH. Fitzy and Smithy are STRAIGHT SHOOTERS I hope the Parramatta fans wouldn't settle for anything less.
Peanuts like Hadley enjoy bagging them. They know however that they won't get a rise out of Fitzy or Smithy because they are both MENTALLY tough. That's what you want in a Club. That's what I want ANYWAY.

* Fair-weather fans DO exist; I'm not calling anyone a bandwagon fan, but they do exist; I'm sure Parramatta has its fair share

* A lot of Parramatta fans prefer to watch the matches at home, in their oen comfort

* Our fanbase, along with Souths, is the most prosperous in the NRL; surely you don't expect to compare?

* You might not be able to see it, but Melbourne is NOT the sporting capital of Australia; it's the AFL capital of Australia with a few Cricket matches thrown in here and there every now and again

* And you mightn't agree with Fitz, but he is correct - for a team who won the Premiership one year in the State where League is probably least regarded, your corwds the following year were nothing short of average. To keep putting money into Victorian League is a waste.

Of course, there are loyal fans such as yourself which make it worthwile. But there are too small a minority of you.

* Finally, whilst I agree with most of what Dennis had to say, I do think it was dumb to say it now; it will just pump Melbourne up - and we don't need that.

See you at the game.

The irony is the "peanut" you talk about has been talking up the Melbourne move up north for years, infact he's been wanting to get rid Melbourne alltogether, where Fitzy only wants to relocate them.Yeah!! he doesn't like Smith, not many people do, but he is Fitzys best mate so the gee ups can more or less be taken with the grain of salt.

Hey Fitzy you slapnut I actually agree with your sentiments just not your timing, but I'm sure you will correct me and tell me why it was the right time to say it leading up to the game against the Mexicans

That would be a fair comment if RL wanted to run the Storm at a profit in the near future, as private enterprise would.

News Ltd did not see return on investment. Private company, different rules.

RL should be looking to invest in its long term future by trying to spread the word.

Mind you it will atake a long time, but I don't belive that short term profit is what the NRL is looking for in Vic.

I belive it should be the NRL's policy to "give it a go".

Dennis has been around for a long time, too long in fact. I think its time the club needed a change. Lets not put up with all the bullsh*tt with Smith and Fitzgerald, one of them has to go. There's no loyalty at the club, something's gotta be done.
