The belief that Hunt signed with us because Doust told him such and such would be coaching next year is so far fetched it's ridiculous.

He signed because we offered him a 5 year multi-million dollar deal that blew every other offer out of the park, simple as that.
2 factors....
1. No one actually knows what we paid Hunt.
Iv heard the media say 6 million for 6 and ive heard 6 mill for 5 years and ive heard 5 mill for 5 years.
All speculation. All we know is brisbane couldnt match it. But wat was brisbane offering? No one knows.
2. Iv had chats with certain people from within our club... and they have said that from a while ago... Hasler agreed to terms with us from 2018.
Nothing has been signed... but he has all but agreed to what we offered him.
Has anything been signed since? I dont know.
So the notion that doust may have told a player who the coach will be in 2018 isnt as far frtched and ridiculous as some might think.

After Wayne Bennett burned us after "agreeing to terms" I doubt even Doust would be stupid enough to make such promises and I sincerely doubt Hunt would make such a huge career move based on maybes.

Of course all speculation but let's at least employ some logical and rational thinking FFS...

If Hunt signed on the premise of Hasler coming and Hasler reneges then a breach of contract no Hunt.

IMO Hunt came purely and simply because the offer was far too good to refuse regardless of the coach albeit they probably stated a new one was on the agenda if we don't finish top 6.

Hunt made it clear that he was a new father and this contract was to set his family up . He had two official offers one from the Bronco's and one from the Dragons . Our offer was to big to refuse . There would not have been any talk of coaches , players or anything else just money and the chance to set his family up for life .

You could very well be right however, we won't be certain until the season unfolds, events take place and announcements are made.

In the meantime, consider the following;

Up until late last season the person advising the Board was Doust.
Recently Mark Coyne has been front and centre with advice to the Board.
With two young halves available in Field and Mann, why would the Board make such a big play for Hunt. It has to be a change in tact and most probably on advice from Coyne.
From the Club's point of view, it all only makes sense if a Coach has been secured.

I agree possm
But untill they sign there is always a chance of a back flip.
Remember Bennett had a verbal agreement with the chooks and then came to us.
So you never no.

Logical thinking would suggest that even if Hasler "burns us" as bennett did... then it shows that we are looking at an experienced coach to replace mary with.
No disrespect to you, but im over everyone being so negative.
Yes the club has f#cked up big time the last 5 years.
Yes we've employed piss poor coaches...
Yes we've let a promising junior go...
Yes we've lost some good talented players...
But its as clear as daylight those problems have been looked at.
We've signed up our most promising juniors now...
We are looking at an experienced coach...
We are signing experienced players that are talented rather then back up first graders...
The problems of the last 5 years have been noticed.. and they are being rectified....

We were looking at an experienced coach to replace Price for 2013 (Bellamy)...when we didnt get him, they actually re-sign the plank for an extra 2 years.
Then we were looking at Bennet for the 2015 season and again, we nearly nabbed him...but when we missed out, we end up with Mary, an even worse coach than our predecessor.

To think that just because we are looking at an experienced coach means we've turned a corner is completely naive. If we dont get Hasler, expect either Mary re-signed or another rookie thrown in. Hell, there's as much likelihood that your contacts at the club are pulling your leg and havent even spoken to Hasler yet!!!

If we do miss out on Des which could be highly likely, Manly will not accept another inept season, except Baz to get the tap, Des to backflip like DCE after getting a call from Bozo, and we end up with Rookie number 3 JD!

Anyone thinking that the board have plans for a coach or have one in place already for 2018 is kidding themselves.

It's just as likely that they are planning on giving McGregor an extension so he'll 'finally have the cattle' or some shit like that, and will wait until they've got anything higher than a 40% success rate to action this.
I know, it's a bit hard to believe. I'll just say I hope that the club has more of an idea about what they're about.

In the past the club seemed to give the coach free reign on everything. That worked with Bennet, but I think the rookie coaches were given too much delegation.

Based on off season developments it looks like the club operates more independently of the head coach, who plays his specific role. If this is so, well then the club has the ability to make more strategic decisions based on knowledge.

"The problems of the last 5 years have been noticed.. and they are being rectified...."

These problems are the symptoms ... the rectification needed is to get rid of the disease.

Unfortunately, we are now structured so that is almost impossible.. the protected species will remain in place... accountability does not play a role.

Just occasionally an interloper comes in and changes the fortunes of the club .. only for the true trend to continue when they leave... and these small windows of success of the 'hired gun' are then used as the anchors by the leeches for their tenures.

A run of long term continued success is not be possible without getting rid of the current failed 'leeches' and meaningful change to the 'protectionist' Constitution.

lol the problems have been looked at.

What a relief! The people who caused this giant red baboon's ass of a problem have now stopped averting their eyes. They are looking at it. This is good news everyone. The doc has spoken to people
