Thanks to all for the comments and concern, and you are probably owed a better answer than what I'll give...

Many of the RL1908 articles are posted on a new site where I am profiling my work > http://www.byanoldboy.com

The other sites relate to my interest in early rugby (mostly before RL was founded) > http://www.rugbeia.com & http://www.rugbyaustralis.com

re RL1908.com

Hosting costs aren't the issue.

I tired of providing a free information service to/for the game for no return...

It also became apparent to me that others weren't breaching copyright of my work, but the site was providing quite a good template/resource for others (on the web & elsewhere).

50K unique vistors every month for past 10 years was terrific, but barely 1 or 2 a month cared to buy a $20 RL history book (half of which was blown on packing & postage). The model was not sustainable, but I perservered with it in the hope it would lead to other opportunities. Unfortunately, we all eventually reach a limit.

If a paying model arises RL1908.com and/or its content may return.

Thats the thing mate as apart from your excellent books the amount of stuff you printed on your website were of book and magazine material and that means £££?$$$.

....and the problem with this is what exactly?
Willie seems to have alluded to it in another of his mysterious whingey moans....

Aside from those about high profile &/or 'colourful' players, publishers are convinced RL fans don't buy books. I had a greater faith than them in RL fans & so I self published anyway, but the full boxes sitting in my study speak for themselves. And people wonder why there are so many AFL, RU & cricket books in stores, but so few RL.

Unfortunately you also knowingly posted incorrect information in your sig file, claiming NRL information to be official club information. If you ever require clarification, please feel free to PM me. Cheers.

Boot off chump.

Cut/paste...link provided, what rules have I breached?

Youre making the accusations.....you can explain yourself here

That I don't feel inclined any longer to donate to the RL media/admin/world a free RL resource for little more than a 'atta boy', nor to provide raw material for an application developer or whatever else soon arises.

Defensive?

Relax. You take things way too personal.

You have the NRL version in your sig file. The Dragons version says differently. The clubs generally don't control the NRL website entries.

IMO, each club has a right to determine their own heritage.

Sorry if this upets you to the point of it dominating your sig file. Quite frankly, I think you're better than that.

I too am sorry to see it go as I have very much enjoyed the articles.

I have also bought and read a couple of Seans books and can recommend them very highly. I personally regard the pioneers of rugby league as the most interesting book about the game Ive ver read and Seans writing style is supurb.

The higher profile books like Joey's Two of Me etc simply do not compare.

So get yer wallets out boys n girls and buy one or two of Seans books. They really are excellent.

With living in the UK I get mine locally via web/Amazon.
Iam sorry that you couldn't shift them but couldn't this forum amongst others have a book sale day for you ?????? I mean if each member of the forum bought one book and thats like a couple of beers or a night out.
I might start a thread about that if you don't mind.
Call it a testimonial.

Good thinking

Let me get over bank holiday and a try and get something sorted for this idea and ask the mods of this site and in truth Mr.Fagan has done a site which would of cost you in books alone if it was 20 years ago.
The guy deserves the credit and I be happy to put my money were my mouth is and hope every LU poster will do it for a 1 off.

Fair enough Sean.

I own a copy of The Rugby Rebellion/Pioneers of the Game, and can highly recommend the purchase to anyone interested in the history and roots of the Australian game.

Great value for $20 imo, hit the link on RL1908.com and do yourselves a favour...

Bought a copy. Don't know why I haven't before, but I have read that site top to bottom, and really should be giving something back.

Thanks Sean for providing such a great site for so many years.
