Ok, I think the penny is starting to drop now (been a hard day at the office).

So you'd rather have 2 props, a 2nd rower and a utility player on the bench rather than 3 props and a utility.

I think because I see our 2nd rowers and lock as more 80 minute players it just seemed to make more sense to me to boost the firepower (so to speak) by having 3 props on the bench.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

The players on the bench determines on the players in the backrow. Although i don't really like a three prop bench, because you may lack versatility, having Abraham, Simpson and Newton all fit means that a three prop bench is suitable.

But if any of the other backrowers like Tanner, Lowrie or Reynoldson were in the starting line-up, i think it would be the safer option to include another backrower.

The reason you do not have 3 props on the bench is that eventually you have 3 props in the game at the same time. This creates lack of mobility and speed in the forward pack as a whole in the defensive line as well lack of movement in lateral defence around the ruck area creating greater opportunities for the opposition's dummy half and their smaller speed men.

Surely you jest? Woolnough has been average this year compared to Perry and Tolar. He'd be fourth on my list. When all are fit this season I'd probably say that Woolnough is the least valuable prop of those 5.

My view is that Perry has improved on last year (which wasn't hard to do) and has had one cracker of a match against the Bulldogs but still lacks consistency. Woolly I believe shows that consistency, has a very high work rate and has the added bonus of being very effective in the 2nd row as well. Tolar is improving all the time and eventually may be the best of the 3 three but my rating is on current form.

Woolnough has been well down on form this year. He would be the last prop picked for mine. He seems to be down on pace and has no offload.
