Difference for NZ in winning union and league World Cups

There's nothing freakish about not losing to them. It's no different to the Kangaroos not losing to Wales in rugby league. The only difference is because of the nature of rugby yawnion shit teams like Ireland and Scotland can look better than they are by playing a conservative game and kicking penalties all night.

No it is very different to the Kangaroos never losing to Wales in league. Ireland and Scotland play the Six Nations every year, as well as numerous games against some of the AB's, Aus, SA and the Pacific Islands. This has been the case for a hundred years. On the other hand Wales barely plays a couple of games a year unless you go back to the 30's or earlier. Aussie 'always' beating them is hardly a comparable accomplishment.

Not only that but as far as the AB's are concerned, if you watched the game on Monday morning at all you would have seen how up against it the AB's were. Every team aims up for them, the Ireland that played them on Monday was ten times the team that played Aussie the week before because everyone is desperate to knock off the AB's. The fact that the AB's continue to win in spite of that makes their achievements all the more impressive.

Someone with some sense,Englands last 3 test matchs at home,2 of which were played durning the rlwc were all sell outs..80,000 plus, what did the kiwis vs England sell??60,000..for a semi of a world cup.shit more people turned up to the last 3 English test matches than the whole of the 2008 rlwc which was held in the only country that takes the game seriously :sarcasm:.
the simple reasons is more people agree that rugby union is the better form of the game, this rlwc cup proved it once again, while 10,000 were turning up to rlwc games(and that's being generous),union games were being played in front of sell out crowds of up to 80,000 through out Europe.
The Usa team has being getting sellout crowds this year too.
league fans can spin bullshit which way they want about the global reach of union but numbers don't lie.
End of the day for international league to grow the nrl will have to suffer, you cant have a comp thats played for more than half a year and have an international season it just wont work, and for me I'd rather have the nrl,if one thing ive learned from this world cup is thank f##k for the nrl.Because 9 times out of ten international league or even super league comp just anit worth watching

Another troll post. What a load of rubbish.

crowd numbers aren't everything though. league is a very minority sport in Ireland, so a match there versus a union match at the union stronghold of Twickers is hardly a fair comparison.

These arguments make everyone look stupid. And it appears that the leaguies have massive chips on the shoulders. so let bygones be bygones. live and let live. Be content with what you have instead of trying to piss on the rival code

If RU did not have the establishment support it enjoys courtesy of many factors like nation wide playing of the sport in the school system and favourable media coverage then it would be a different story!

I believe the islander element of NZ are more naturally suited to the greater physicality of RL as with the Pacific island nations as a whole. RL allows for more running with the ball and tackles. If you do the math these statements ring true when comparing either sport.

RL is a far democratic form of rugby but it hasn't got the establishment support that RU enjoys. Its not fair but its reality! One day this may change. Let's hope so!

Lol. What a load of crap. What happened to Tonga vs Scotland? A bunch of whities with something between there ears and playing like a team will beat a Team of big strong bulked up athletic individuals any day.

Many rugby league fans believe their sport is less popular than rugby union because rugby union has the support of the establishment. This supposes that people are stupid. That they can be brainwashed into thinking they like rugby union but really without the evil private school types they would like league. Get off of it! It has not occurred to many people that union is more popular because more people like union. It is fine if you like league but don't expect others to share your view point.

What a lot of Rugby Union fanatics fail to realise or do but fail to acknowledge it, is that Union is bigger than League because of the lack of awareness of League around the globe. This is because of a few factors over time but the fact of the matter is that League is not a known sport in many Rugby Union playing nations especially South Africa. I'm not going to debate what is the better code but to form an opinion that Union is bigger because more people like it more is totally flawed.

Rugby is just a more traditional sport played at schools and universities around the world, nothing else to add really.

Union stiffled leagues growth by shutting it out of UK universities and defence force.

If you look a the history of most English sports it was spread by people with these backgrounds.

Well... they usually don't. Tonga will beat scotland 9 times out of 10, we all know that. Upsets happen, if you really think the scottish rl team is better than the tonga rl team, then... well, you know the rest.

Difference between the All Blacks and Kiwis winning the world cups?

250,000 people showed up for the All Blacks victory parade

500 people showed up at Otahuhu Rugby League club rooms for the Kiwis victory "parade"

lol fgt. when we won the tri-nations in whatever year it was we got more than 500 on a school day, mid-afternoon for an almost impromptu welcome home at mt smart.

why do you even post here?

Union players in general are sh.te…… Its fact. Look at this list of "legends" that could hardly crack 1st grade
Garrick Morgan - best union forward in the world in 1994.
Pieter Muller - Captain of the Sprinkboks Rugby Union Team. Joined the Penrith Panthers in 1997 but never ever made First Grade. Returned to Union in 1998, straight into a Springboks Jersey
Tiaan Strauss - Hahahahaha
Tony Darcy - World's best union prop in 1990 to a reserve for 3rd grade at Penrith a year or so later.
John Gallaghur - Hhahaha
Mark Carter the former All Black star
John Kirwan
Kent Lambert – All Black
Springbok gun Peter Swanson

And then on the other hand this is what i can come up with off the top of my head for League RESERVE Graders that have rep'ed in Union.

Rugby League State Cup to Super 12

- Brett Sheehan
- Ryan Mcgoldrick
- Duncan McCrae
- Wycliff Palu
- Rocky Elsom
- Joe Tomane
- Rodney Davis

You clearly have no idea if you think Union players are as skilled as league players.

I agree the All Blacks are a different kettle of fish compared to ALL other nations but in general Union is sub par….

Fact

Martin Offiah? How about Roger Tuivasa Sheck. Dominating school boy union, and within two years of switching to league he's won a premiership and is voted the best winger in the world

Taking from Schoolboy level is completely different to taking from when the player is established in whatever comp he has chosen…..
RTS played league in High School also. Thats on par as claiming King Wally was a Union junior! What a myth that is…..

:lol: this thread is gold if they swapped sides tomorrow. Aside from the wingers. RU backs wouldn't handle RL defence. RL backs would be fine IF they overcome the boredom.

RL forwards would struggle in RU. RU forwards would struggle in RL.

The OP proves RU is as one sided as RL is just has 4 rather then 3.

Ryan McGoldrick played ONE game for the Waratahs, and was so inept that he disappeared back into club rugby and was never seen again.

Duncan McRae never played for the Wallabies.

Rocky Elsom played in a Jersey Flegg winning team before switching back to rugby union, the sport he had played at Nudgee College.

Wycliff Palu went to the NRL at a time in his life when he was struggling, while he was at St George he turned things around. Good on him.

Joe Tomane played a fair bit of first grade in the NRL over four seasons, firstly with the Storm (where he played with Cooper Cronk, ex Australian Schools Rugby Union rep), then with the Titans (where he played with William Zillman, ex rugby union schoolboy player). He played in the Australian Schools Rugby Union team in 2007 before switching to the NRL. In his first season with the Storm, he scored three tries in a game against the Broncos. In first grade. He did okay for a reserve grader, managed to play first grade, somehow.

Stuart & Price played RL at a junior level.

Not sure about O'Connor but he may have, and Ridge probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to play RL at junior level.
