Digital radio / DAB+

Enjoying the variety of stations.

Not enjoying stations that drop in and out. Like gaps of silence. As you'd expect with digital - not like the static or weak/strong signal you are used to with analogue signals.

I am putting this down to a cheap radio I got from Aldi.

Anyone use a "brand name" radio - an $80 Sangean or something like that?

Still get dropped signals? Or once it is tuned does it hold the signal?

Trying to work out if I should upgrade, not worth the $$$ if it doesn't solve the problem.

A weak signal is generally down to you aerial.

Crap sound means crap amps/speakers.

I have a Pure Elan II that I bought for $149 a couple of years ago and the sound is fantastic, reception is pretty good too.

It may not be the Ariel as much as the location of your radio. I found moving it a few feet closer to a window meant no further drop outs were experienced

I bought myself one of the Sangean portable digital radio I'm pretty happy with it, its better than the Grundig digital radio dock I bought a few years back.

Try adjusting the aerial, failing which you may need to move the radio to another room to reduce building shielding.

This is outside. Channel comes in clear, then a half second of silence then clear again. I've moved it, moved the aerial.

Sounds like this is not the usual digital radio experience.

Thanks for the replies.

That can happen when your close to the unit and your blocking the direction the signal is coming in (or something else is blocking that signal).
