Congrats to the people of Newcastle for staying off the gear for an afternoon and wandering down to the stadium.

Here is a news flash - Australia are a better team than us. Its a fact that they just have much better and more experienced players than us. The only time we are going to be competitive with them is when a number of factors are ALL alligned ie:
Full Strength
Good preperation
A bit of luck
Even ref.

If one of those factors aren't there then we will always struggle. If none of those factors are there we will ALWAYS lose by this kind of margin. I cant see that ever changing and I'm not sure why anyone is surprised.

Kind of agree to a point (although better and more experienced when we have so many pro players now?) But that's a cop out IMO to explain this display, which was dreadful. I'm sick of the coach and players, coming on interviews after woeful displays like that, and calling it 'disappointing.' That seems to be the buzzword, and that word is the understatement of the year.:x Call a spade a spade. It was SHIT!

You can also add ball retention and making tackles;-)

Didn't even watch the game- saw this coming

:lol:That crossed my mind too (although I didn't expect THAT), was watching Phoenix then James May making a big slot car track...and couldn't resist, and switched to the game. And if they play like that again it should be switched from Sports to comedy central.

I just can't get on board with the "it's to be expected" mentality

but surely, they seriously dont expect us to match it with Aussie with an under prepared, players out of position, no motivation, and yet another 'away' game ??

best part of that game was 5 players debuting.

shame they were set up to fail.

I just can't get on board with the "it's to be expected" mentality when we put in a performance like that. Would have in the past, when we were desperately trying to fly someone in from England to fill a void. Would have when we were throwing a center with no halves experience into standoff because, well, there was noone else. Would have when we were cobbling together a disparate side made up of players from different comps, some of whom were in and out of reserve grade sides.

A number of guys in the team picked on Sunday may not have been first or even second choice picks, but that doesn't mean that any of them were third rate players. Guys in that side have won titles at international level, the majority have NRL finals experience, and a number of them have grand final experience. Our spine is made up of quality players who are all specialists in their positions.

Noone is saying that we should have beaten the Kangaroos, but IMO, we have every right to expect better than what was served up on Sunday. I'll take a loss on the chin, but not a mid-table, NSW cup performance from a team of full time NRL first graders. There's just no excuse for it.

Could not agree more. There have been various 'reasons' for that horrendous display, 'Reasons'= Excuses. And the bottom line is the Kiwis were just godawful. IMO many of the players went into this test with the same attitude many fans do- One off, doesn't mean anything, basically a fundraising exhibition game, a bit of a hitout before the tourno...
FFS, it's a test, with pride in the jersey on the line. Pride in proving this team is worth WC Champion and 4N Champion titles. Pride in proving we are up there with Aussie and can hold our own...And then, this sort of blowout. Again.

But mate, there's a difference between not matching it and performing like they did. It's not the loss, it's the nature of that performance that none of us deserve to wear. I have sympathy for what you're saying, but only to a point.

yesterdays 'Test' was about one thing, gate sales. It was a fundraiser.

It was nothing more than a warm up game.

The last time the poms played a 1 off was also in Newcastle iirc, they got flogged and told the ARL to get f**ked.

When will we ?, does nothing whatsoever for the game.

Yeah, good idea that one

Lets get over to England for the 4 Nations without any match at all under our belt

will remove the 1 off test excuse for the flogging we would cop, would still be able to run with the gelling line though

It's a valid argument not an excuse

You're more likely to win games if you have had an opportunity to gel through out the year

Pfft who are you to say this is NOT an excuse, to me that more than explains that this crock of shit match is tarnishing the International Game

Our forwards have played more than enough together to know what is going on, and Foran and Marshall are hardly strangers.
The ball control was disgraceful, nothing to do with gelling. 2 weeks together is more than enough to have 17 guys on the same page with a defensive structure as well, not half sliding and half up and in

The Australian back 5 didn't seem to have much trouble gelling together, and they haven't been playing together all year, Tonga and Uate on 1 side and Lawrence and Boyd on the other have no previous experience together but seemed to have half a clue what was going on

People can throw out whatever lines they like about it, the effort and application yesterday was a disgrace to the black jersey

Will go through this point by point

Under prepared - Same amount of time to prepare as the opposition

Players out of position - Fair enough, we have a centre crisis, outside of that though, the side was in their normal spots

No motivation - Well if that is true, pick the guys out and put a black line through their names for the future if putting the black jersey on can't motivate them

Away game - Yep fair enough, doesn't excuse the basics though
