I wish the games were played 6/6 so I could watch the Tigers 6 times a year down at Leichhardt. Shame that won't happen with the financial scuffles and such.

Also, Since I'm 13, I wasn't around back in the day of Wests and Balmain really, so I support the Tigers since I live in the direct vicinity of Leichhardt.

Also, guys if your a Tigers fan, stop hating on Wests and Balmain respectively. Go back to 05 for a minute. We won a premiership in 5 years of existence. That is alot better than either Balmain or Wests have done. Just support the damn team, and get over to the games, don't fight amongst each other over which team of the JV was better.

You will not be a true supporter until you acquire the appropriate baggage. Balmain stands for all that is good and just in RL. Wests stand for failure.

I'm thinking you must be jesting or otherwise you are just a di**head, in case you hadnt noticed Balmain Tigers and the Wests Magpies dont EXIST in the NRL anymore and this same old crap that some so called "fans" keep dishing up is pathetic. We may all have been upset that it happened in the first instance but I tell you what...

...we are the WESTS TIGERS, that simple!!

That long long long ago no one would remember....eh?

Yep. 1924 :) That is long long long ago. Everyone is long dead (aside from my uncle who is 80 odd, and a number of cousins), but it meant a lot to my mum who loved the Tigers and who is now dead. It has considerable sentimental value to me because she was always proud I supported the Tigers because of her old man and her family all being from Rozelle. We were actually discussing the origin of supporting a team ie growing up with Balmain or Wests. Back in those days I assume anyone could have got a gig.

I don't go to player presentations, fawn around players or want to meet and hang out with players. I like my team - from the appropriate distance. I don't know anyone in the game or really wish to. Everyone has their own reasons for how they got stuck with their team. There are many times when I wish I could have been stuck with a more winning team.

For MadUnit's benefit, Millard is the name. The team pic still hangs in BLC.

I apologise for being sentimental about my mum. I only said long long long ago so it was obvious it wasn't 1969, and had to be from from Balmain's golden era. Shouting my uncle (and cousin) to the 2005 grandfinal as a posthumous gift from my mum made 2005 magical for me.

I've got a lot of team photographs of Balmain from many of the grades across that era, as his brother also played for Balmain (mainly lower grades). I haven't dug them up for over 20 years though. If BLC ever burns down - I will happily give them the pic of the 24 side. Every thing is true except my grandfather was the fringe first grader and my great uncle dud was actually in the premiership side. Just a smidge of licence :). Dear old dud died not long after 24 I believe. My uncle reckoned he would have played for Australia if not for his premature demise. He was slightly biased though. Going to the footy with my uncle and you get all the stories from so many eras. Fabulous stuff.

You have mentioned your son's league career on any number of occasions on LU and on the official forum. I can only assume with the magpies. It will one day be very significant memory for him as something he did with dad. He is obviously far too small and won't progress but that isn't really the point.

I hate Wests, but I don't begrudge Wests fans their link to their club. As gurstar so rightly pointed out, at the end of the day there is no difference.

I could live with 6/6. Survival is what it is all about these days though. I have become very angry re the Wests v Balmain balance in the merger. Wests are way too big for their boots. Balmain has a far greater following than West IMO.

If the the Joint-Venture club bared the name 'Magpies' instead of Tigers, that supposed support that is far greater would all of a sudden not seem so dominate. Think about it....

And besides the greatest aspect of 'Wests Tigers' is that the next generation of fans will only be concerned about one thing and one thing only. Wests Tigers. The factional fighting will be dead and buried. Bring that on I say. Will put sooks like you to bed quick smart who perceive that the balance is all but fair. Somebody call the Waaaambulance.

It is going to take a long time for the 1980s Balmain fan base to die out. They are all breeding as we speak as well. Their Balmain links will then be via there families.

The landscape of rugby league will most likely radically change before the Tigers/Magpies infighting dies out.

yep. Dear ole dud. I need to check out how he died - as there is quite an interesting story behind it unless I am confusing him with another relative. I just can't ask my mum like the old days. I used to just go yeah yeah to my old uncle as a kid and tune out. Now I appreciate it. He is looking so long in the tooth these days. I need to drill the old dude for info before he passes on.

Your right the Balmain fans from the 80's will be around for some time, myself included although I am now completely a Wests Tigers fan.

The part I think you may be deluding yourself with though is the fact that their/my kids aren't going to have half the passion about the Balmain Tigers because as far as the kids coming through are concerned Balmain are now just a park footy team that used to play in the NRL/ARL/NSWRL.

As far as future generation are concerned to a large extent the Balmain Tigers are no more, sad but true!!
