Disgusted, Appalled....Good Bye Mr Smith

Well, I expect to get a pizzling for what I am about to say but frankly I don't care.

After being away from Newcastle for 10 years I started attending home games in 1997 and since then I attend all of them unless something goes wrong.

Even in the dark days of Michael Hagan's reign I saddled up waiting for us to win a game and often left reasonably pleased with the EFFORT, win or lose.

Well tonight I left at half time, I was not feeling particularly on top of things due to illness and the woeful display that was unfolding in front of me was just too much to bare.

We had a non-existent kicking game, we looked like turnstiles and we were mistake ridden for the 40 minutes I watched. In the time it took me to drive home, the game became completely lost when the Roosters went to a 30 to 6 lead.

What I think Freddy should have written last week was that Smith had given his players all the motivation they needed to win. Playing in front of Smith, a bloke who is being taken to their club to do a hatchet job was all the motivation they needed.

Well they performed and we didn't. We have now leaked 70 odd points in two weeks. Our for and against will now move into the minus and barring a minor miracle you can kiss the season goodbye.

Brian, thanks for some of the things you have done for the club but in all seriousness I will be out the front waving you off come the Panthers game.

Whilst you can't blame Brian for what the players don't do you can't discount that his activities of the past three weeks may have dinted the confidence of some players, who rely on that confidence to perform.

Mr Burraston and the board find a new coach to come in for the Knights. Punt Stone he is part of what we seen tonight.

At the end of the day I will back to support the Knights, because I love them but tonight I am hurt, disgusted and pissed off.

Oh and just to add insult to injury I have just checked the scores and have seen the Panthers have made a spectacular come back against the Warriors.

EDIT: Our four and against will just stay in the positive based on the final score....small mercies...

Disgusting effort. Say what you want about the rebuilding process but we will probably miss the finals. We have sweet f**k all to show from Brian's reign as coach other than an assumption we could be a good side. Sure we beat the Dragons and the Dogs and most of the better teams, but what good is that when every second week you get beaten by an also-ran like the Roosters, Souths or Tigers.

Aside from the punting Stone comment it is really hard to disagree with you champ. A very poor performance from the boys tonight and it is very hard to discount the coaching situation as being a massive factor.

After our gutsy performances in the 1st half of the season it is hard to stomach this kind of sh*tty footy.

I am just not sure that he is the bloke to lead us out of this situation. He was with Hagan when we were farked and now he is with Smith...anyway if he stays I am sure he will do his best and thats all that can be asked.

I would just like to thank the Board and Steve Burraston for destroying three years worth of hard work, build up and patience shown by the players and coaching staff at the knights. You blokes really have no idea do you. Did you guys even ask to sit down with Smith and negotiate something when he asked to look at options? Your appauling lack of management is just out of this world.

How did you think the players were going to respond to this, CLEARLY they were playing for their coach who they believed in, like most good sides do and you go and ruin it all. I dont blame Smith one Iota, clearly with the ease in which he slipped his contract and the difficulty he had getting another longer term deal with the knights we didnt want him.

To be honest they need to punt Pika as wrestling coach as well. The technique in the tackle was disgraceful where our positioning in the tackle allowed the quick play the balls by the roosters which is one of the major reasons we were in our half for most of the match.

We were dominated completed in the ruck and as far as I am concerned lets get rid of the whole coaching staff and get the right coaching staff that can start to dominate the ruck.

Over the last few weeks, even in the games we have won, we have had to play the game ,mostly in our half due to our inability to control the ruck.

I'm sorry...but if the players aren't putting in for their current coach, they are also not wanting to put in for their likely future coach as well. Ridiculous...they should be out there WANTING to impress the guy in charge of the team next year, and they turn out that pathetic, insipid performance.

Nothing surprising here.

Brian Smith's entire tenure is completely overrated.

The most interesting thing I noticed tonight came prior to the kickoff. At every home game this year, Brian Smith has been out on the ground with his team dressed in his suit overseeing the warm ups.

Tonight , he wasn't on the field at the warm ups for the first time all year. ( Smith was also on the field at the away game I went to in Melbourne in warm ups - giving advice to his halves especially. )

Tonight Rick Stone ran the warm ups alone.

sure, the Smith saga takes some of the blame... but let's not forget the 17 jokers out there that are playing with little pride or passion in comparison to earlier on in the season.

I think that is a fair comment. They were terrible but I see this team as a fairly inexperienced bunch of blokes and many of them are confidence players. Smith bought them here and helped to develop them. A number of them where discards from other clubs. They rely on confidence and the fact that their mentor decides to jump up three quarters of the way through season may be unsettling for them.

If what Karma says is correct, that Smith has been on the ground at every game in the warm up, is another example of the change that may be happening.

People react differently to change and I believe these blokes have reacted badly to the thought of it.

I blame Smith and the players for what I saw tonight!

Smith has been on the field at every game I've seen this year during warm ups - home and away.

He usually spends much of the warm up talking with Mullen/Rogers/Dureau.

He mingles mostly and hangs back but he was always there.

Not tonight.

I agree.....that was totally unacceptable.......actually the last 2 have been.......wat the f##k is going on with them.......I think smith has got to go like Monday he obviously isn;t interested in the knights now.He has his big salary increase now so why does he give a rats....I am so pissed off. To sit there and watch that crap. We left with 15 mins to go...why does he persist in playing players out of position......crazy!

I don't doubt you, its not something I have noticed in the past but I have not been looking either....so just goes to show that Stone's influence did not work....

Hilder's only kick was good and better than Gidley's. Perhaps, finally, a second kicking option when Scott is out?
