OK, you have to create your own NRL club based in NZ (Hypothetical). What would you call them where would they be based? What colours would they have?
I know the Wellington Orca is a name that’s been suggested in the past but does anyone have any other ideas? Club will be in the NRL in 2013.

But I think the NRL should really look at another NZ team, it would make for great rivalry between the Warriors and the New Club. It would develop more League players and provide another channel for young up-and-comers. It would enlarge the NRL’s base.
But would people go to the game? Maybe some games in CHCH. Or the Warriors could be the Auckland Warriors again the new team could be the Southern “………” I know there is a bid out there for Wellington….but is it serious? They don’t have a website.

I think the Warriors are proving how tough it is to compete in the NRL.
Any second team would face a real uphill battle and almost certainly fall on it's face - to the detriment of league in NZ.
At the present time I can't see the NRL allowing it to happen.

Least the Warriors could get an away game in NZ. Tigers and Bulldogs never went back to Chch or Wellington as home games.
Maybe Sharkes keen for Chch???

Auckland can support a team on it's own, but realistically there isn't one other city in NZ that could do the same.

People have talked about a combined Wellington/Canterbury team, but it becomes a Catch-22 ... how do you build up the support and keep the corporates happy if you're only playing 6 games (or less) in each of your "home" stadiums??

One solution would be to base a team somewhere with a decent pool of local support plus easy access to other regions to draw both players and supporters from. Maybe a Waikato/BOP team could work? (Just don't call them the Magic)

As the warriors are seen as a defacto national team id move them to the nations capital, playing games all over NZ except for Auckland. Then id admit the Auckland Vulcans to the NRL.Imagine the hatred the jaffas would feel for a team that up and left,it would be the most intense rivalry in the NRL.

You would have to choose either Wellington or Chch to make it work or it just wouldnt work. As you said for sponsors, fans and even the team players would want just one base.
Keep building the game from the grass roots and the rest will follow.
