Do we actually want Cronk?

yeah I agree its not in anyone's best interests to have them found to be at fault .... and I think it'd probably never stick no matter what, cos footballers are so good at the "i know nothing" defense (although personally I think you can only play so dumb) .... but if there's obvious evidence, it'd be pretty hard to totally sweep it under the carpet

As long as they dont find an email or written evidence they wont pin anything on the players. Wally on the other hand, with the emails published today in the DT, must be the biggest idiot in sporting management.

My biggest fear is that in the absence of the best structured team of te modern era, and the greatest
dummy half possibly of all time, will he be anywhere near as effective?

I would go for smith first. He's probably a better halfback than cronk let alone player.

I assume you are referring to Cameron and not the other clown....

Cronk would be great for the club but not for the money we'd need to pay for him. We will desperately need another half, a specialist 5/8 in particular. A specialist dummy half would be good to.

Not sure what the long term plans are for our 5/8, Mateo gone and Keating most likely off to the bulldogs. Perhaps Humble might get a go, or try Hayne there again??

I vaguely remember Gallop saying that the players don't sign something like an afadavid (spelling) saying they will abide by the salary cap but clubs do. Im pretty sure he said this would make it hard to punish any player who knew he was recieving money outside the salary cap.

the other clown would have had us in the top 4 with those close games we have lost.

If i had a choice i know who i would be taken. smith or morts. I am positive 99% would do the same on here. YOu hate for smith soesnt let u see that he is a better fit for our team than that imposter we have now

The administrators are required to sign a stat dec stating that their books are correct. So yes you are right the players regarless of their involvement are not going to get punished by the NRL. They might have some troubles however if their tax submissions were done without including the extra payments, this is probably their only concern. That said since their taxation information is out of reach of the NRL it would have been crazy to have done that.

Unfortunately there is no one else around who is a PROVEN halfback.
I would love to have orford but he is getting on a bit now.
Is there a young Matt orford around somewhere ???
I never thought i would say this but I would even have Tim Smith back at the club. At least Tim has some idea about halfback play.

F*ck orford he was a myth and his 5 tackle options were no better than what we have now.

For the record I was talking about cameron...

Pete knew EXACTLY who you were referring to, as did everyone else, he just needed to get that dig in any way he could!

After watching Morts for a few years, i would have Ben Rogers over Mortimer at halfback at the moment!!

I agree, i don't see why the buzz is all on the likes of Inglis etc, out of the storm big 4 i would take C Smith as my first choice, he is all class, there is no better hooker at the moment and he could possibly retire as the greatest of all time. Then i think you can even put Robson in at half (id stick with mortimer, or someone with a better kicking game) and get a coach who will force us to play a more structured game which dictate the half's involvement and have the team revolved around the 9.

THE Parramatta Eels are chasing Australian and Melbourne halfback Cooper Cronk.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal that Parramatta management has told Cronk's manager Chris Orr that the club is interested in signing him if forced to leave Melbourne.

New Super rugby union franchise the Melbourne Rebels are also interested but claim they have not made a formal approach.

Melbourne could be as much as $1.5 million over their salary cap and Cronk is the player most feel will be pushed elsewhere.

With Kris Keating signing for Canterbury, Parramatta see Cronk, 26, as someone who can lead them to grand final glory.

Cronk was a Kangaroo earlier this year for the Test against New Zealand. He has also played off the bench for Queensland in this season's State of Origin series.

If Parramatta sign Cronk, they would move struggling halfback Daniel Mortimer to five-eighth.

One well-placed Parramatta source said: "We'd love to have Cooper Cronk.

"I know the club has let his management know we would be interested.

"We need a bit of direction in the halves. We have young halves and a dominant fullback.

"We need someone to jump in and take control."

There were rumours over the weekend that the Rebels wanted Cronk, who was an Australian Schoolboy rugby union player in 2001. But Rebels chief executive Patrick Wilson denied the claims.

"We are not targeting any Storm players," Wilson said.

"It is obvious given what is happening at the Storm that there will be conjecture and speculation with the Rebels given they are both Melbourne sides.

"But we are not courting any Storm players."

Bulldogs halfback Brett Kimmorley is certain to retire now that Keating and Manly halfback Trent Hodkinson will be at Canterbury next season.

Well, Hayne and Humble can both play fullback and five-eight. Humble is only young and so is Hayne (although he is far more experienced). I can see great possibilities there.

Do we want Cronk? Have you seen how well we plays alongside Billy Slater? imagine him doing that with the Eels - Yes, I would accept Cronk to the club with open arms. Very unlikely though.

The last time Parramatta bought a quality halfback in his prime, it was John Simon - and we made the grand-final. The next quality half-back we bought was Jason Taylor - and we made the grand final. Parramatta has not built a team around a half-back for a long long time. We certainly need to do that now. Anderson took a gamble on Keating and Mortimer and lost. That doesn`t make him an idiot or a bad coach - unless he stubbornly persists with it. That`s why I am heartened that he has let Keating go. I reckon Cronk at 7; Humble at 6 and get rid of Mortimer or turn him into a hooker. I`m sorry, I don`t rate Mortimer at all.

I'm convinced the clubs plans for 2011 are to;

A) try and sign Cronk as a priority.
B) if A doesn't happen then sign Kimmorley on a 1 year deal.
C) Let Humble & Mortimer fight it out for the No. 6 jersey.

They want an experienced 7 to help the development of Humble and/or Mortimer.
