Do we have the squad

First I am a Kearney supporter but I am starting to have some real doubts. But I do believe Kearney is building a squad, good young backs with plenty of potential plus hayne. Halves Are covered with sandow and others. Good props plenty of potential in the back row plus a decent hooker. Doesn't appear we are paying stupid money for new players so our cap is not being stuffed up. It also appears we have some good juniors on the way up.

So in my opinion we are building a good squad.

Look at premier ship winning sides over the last decade or so it appears it has taken two coaches to win the comp one for the rebuild then one for real stuff :

Newcastle 2001 - warren Ryan well he got the squad into a finals side , then hagan iced the cake
Roosters 2002 - Murray did a lot of the rebuilding and bringing juniors up.
Penrith 2003 - Simmons did a lot of the squad building
Dragons 2010 - will brown got the squad together then Bennett did his magic.

Look at the other premiers in that period
Broncos - Bennett well he had plenty of time to build a squad
Storm - enough said
Manly - harsler is a freak
Dogs - took Folks ten or so years and a salary cap scandal
Tigers - sheen was experienced

Now maybe Kearney is what we needed to rebuild our squad and now we need a experience coach to take us to the next level.

Interested to see what everyone's opinion is. I know plenty dont rate Kearney . But what about our squad - do we now have the players and foundation to make a run for the title with a new coach within a short time frame ( eg 1 or 2 years) or is more rebuilding required

You've seen them play. No amount of poor coaching results in performances like that. Most of those lads just aren't up to it yet (or any longer, for the older lads).

The conditions didn't much suit them tonight either.

Yes we have the squad. The side that played well for the second 40mins against the Sharks is a good enough squad to at least match it with other teams.

But the same squad/team (minus Morgan ) failed to match it tonight. No consistency. It's a coach's job to instil consistency, through training, skill development, wise use of the bench, tailored game plans, motivation and the ability to take good decisions based on the unfolding of a match.

We have assembled the squad, but imo don't have an adequate coach who can make proper use of it :?. Election time is coming...

We have a solid squad currently. The problem is Kearney can't get the best out of them. He can't even get them to perform at a mediocre level. There's nothing wrong with the squad we have currently.

Kearney could have been a good coach. But he's certainly not the best coach to suit our club at this particular time. And if you want to succeed in a first grade coaching career you have to be willing to live or die by your results and his aren't up to scratch.

Ithink we are missing 1 point, Brad Arthurs from all reports he is one of the most disliked coaches in the club. Players have got no time for him so it must be hard for the players to by into what Kearney wants to achieve if the players dont respect the coaching staff.

First of all, i think the coach is out of his depth, I've held that opinion for some time however how is it that in different times of the year we've targeted several individuals for bad performances and yet we try to convince ourselves we have the squad to compete?

we don't have the squad to compete, we never did unfortunately and i don't believe any coach can pull this rabbit (or rabble) out of a hat...Wayne Bennett wouldn't have the answer, he's got a squad 3 times the tallent then we do and are going like busteds.

IMO the players don't have respect for the coaching staff. Look at the Dogs they were going like shit the last 5 years and then suddenly with the same team the new coach turns em around. That's because the team fears and respect Hasler.

We also have a dumb football team. I don't think any amount of coaching can make up for that.

Yet you conveniently forget their lack of response to Hagan or Anderson once these coaches had settled into the club.

Time to move on mate. This bloke has NFI.

You're missing the point.

If this group of players are undermining a third successive coach (and I don't think they are, but the possibility was raised), then it's probably time to stop blaming coaches.

but but but it can't be the players... It has to be the coaches fault, just like previous coaches were at fault.

FFS, we haven't looked like winning a GF since 1986 and it has never been the players fault.

Wish alot more would realise this and stop overrating some of the players that run out on the field week in week out.
