Do we keep Sandow?

Sandow might not be at his best recently but we know he's better than the bloke he's been dropped for. While it might not be scapegoating by Arthur, it could easily be a a case where a man is desperate for answers and refuses to accept that his own selections are largely responsible for the team's poor form.

I would have liked to have seen Sandow on a team without Paulo, and with a decently-sized bench.

This!

I don't think it's about ability at this stage it's setting the culture of the team and the 2 laziest mofos in it have rightfully been punted.

Little instances in a game such as Paulo's ill discipline even when he's just got on the field. Repeatedly week after week he gives away a lazy penalty. Add the fact that he takes about 4 tackles to get in position after an opposition kick down field every set and his effort stinks.

As for Sandow you don't know what you're getting from him possession to possession let alone week to week. There's many instances of lazy play by him too but one glaring one this week is the 'attacking' kick Norman basically put dead on the full (or near too it). Sandow positioned himself behind the dummy half on the last tackle and the defence zero'd in on Norman knowing he was doing the kicking and rushed him. Sandow wasn't paying attention at all or just couldn't be bothered putting himself in position. Little things like this are repeated week after week after week and thats before we even get to his commitment to defence or lack of, his inability to play to any sort of percentages, and the fact his team mates don't know what the hell he's doing.

Kelly is shit, the problem is why is he even the back up in the first place, but being that he is the Coach really has no choice.

so are there only 9 rounds this year

geez the season finished early

Even if the season did finish after last round, we still wouldn't have the spoon.
Manly are still below us (even if it is by only a single differential point).

I used to think we should re-sign him, as a bench/back-up option... now I'm thinking no.

Just spend his money to get a decent fullback for next year onwards.

1. [a fullback recruit]
2. Semi
3. Taka
4. Hoppa
5. Morgan/Faraimo etc [unless we buy someone in]
6. Foran
7. Norman [because he's under contract]

Lots of young ones coming through, and lots of back-ups for most positions. Fullback is where we are weakest (thanks Jarryd for shooting through on short notice).

I think that real question should be "How much worse are we going to be if we don't keep Sandow?" because there isn't going to be an improvement. There aren't halfbacks knocking down the door to play for the Eels (we burn through halfbacks and coaches as sacrifices to the football gods for our entire teams poor attitude, discipline and defence)... but to be honest, It's starting to not matter. Can we make it to ten years without finals football?

I hope all you death riders of Chrissy are happy you have a change of halfback, lol.... BA is completely lost now and has turned to a bloke who can barely play NSW cup!

The old saying "you don't know what you've got till its gone" will haunt you lot next year when he is at another club kicking @rse, and we're fielding a team with a bum halfback with no Foran, as I'm sure he'll come to his senses and back out of the deal with us in the next few weeks.

What about the Parra fans?

Can we be rapt as well?

You can call people who don't think the same way as you whichever names you please, I just want to have the best chance of winning games. Sandow is a massive liability right now.

Anyone who thinks we can be competitive with this bloke as our halfback have rocks in their heads, maybe 8 seasons of not playing finals football is not big enough of a sample size...

I never was happy about his signing. Was always a huge gamble and it will be disastrous if he manages to snag another contract at the eels. He has all the talent in the world just not the brains to be amongst the top halves.

I feel for him and hope he doesn't fall into his old habits...

I will be amazed if he gets another deal at the Eels.... the only way it could possibly happen I reckon would be if he gets zero offers elsewhere and stays knowing that he will be playing for Wenty first and foremost, and therefore accepts a drastic reduction in money as a result with a top grade appearance only a possibility if Foran or Norman get injured or are in terrible form. Or he is absolutely braining them in NSW Cup and BA thinks he can finally play to a game plan.... and all of that is stretch IMO.

Maybe Manly will take him on if there's anything to Jimmy Smith tweet earlier today... doesn't seem like any other clubs are ringing his manager's phone off the hook to secure his services.

:D

This is the truth. When we signed Sandow he was this unpolished diamond.Age 22 and had all the weapons.Once he cut out all his stupid play and started to read the game he would become one of the better halves in the game.Considering most halves don't hone there skill till 24/25.
But he has not improved one bit.He is the exact same player from age 20-22.
I can understand why parra signed him.We needed a halfback and plenty of people would of seen the talent and expected him to tidy up the nasties in his game. But he has not- 4 yrs down the track.

Maybe he will in 2 more years and become a solid little player, but i dont want to take that risk-We are not as desperate as we where 4 yrs ago.

We have Foran- Norman, matterson may evolve into a decent option aswell.

Without Sandow and Hayne: This season is over.

I think the key statistic in that is that the average against us got worse without Sandow
, again, defence is the attitude of the whole team not an individual. We are the laughing stock of the NRL.

Eels 101: If it's not the halfbacks fault it is the coaches. We should be renamed the Parramatta Scapegoats - "Proudly harvesting a losing culture for a decade by not taking real accountability". A lot of you fans are even guilty of this, seeing some sun on the horizon just by making one change. It's like some of you have long term memory loss from emotional trauma from supporting the Eels and don't remember our history with halfbacks and coaches.

It makes me wonder how much better Sandow's career would have been if he never left Souths. No amount of money is worth coming here at the moment and I hope Foran doesn't realise this.

Also no, Sandow is not the caliber of Johns so can't turn shit into gold, but given a good team he is potentially in top half of the halfbacks in the competition

Exactly - he has to go. Same with Joseph Paulo.

It's not the end of the world - our squad is gradually being upgraded to meet the standards of the culture Brad Arthur has set into place.

If anything Brad has been too kind and generous to let these two players continue on in our top squad after round 7, if not a bit earlier.

There are other 7's and 1's out there. We will find them or develop them so that the rest of this season and next does not completely turn to shit.

These stats are obviously biased. If we had trained with another half then they wouldn't be as bad but because we've trained with Sandow at halfback for the entire pre-season and during the season of course we're going to be worse without him.
