If Arthur doesn't get us into the 8 in 2016 I would be tempted to go all out for someone like Bellamy in 2017. Never believe in that he won't coach against the Storm bullshit. Did you ever think Bennett would coach against Brisbane?

At the very least Brian Smith should be hired to do a job like Gould at Penrith and move on Anderson whose results have been shocking so far.
There is a thread over of the other site about a meeting with Ando, and a membership group of Eels fans where he explains where the club is at. All I got out of it was the NRL are mean, they don't like us and it's all their fault. Waaaaah waaaah waaaahhhh!!! We are in a tough market and it's much easier for other teams. And we can't get the 3rd party deals other clubs do.

Well we had a guy like Moss who could of made these sort of deals happen and what did we do??? I have no faith in Ando at all to get us out of this mess. Looks like he had caught the Seward Blame everybody else disease.

I agree wholeheartedly re DA. I reckon you've been a touch harsh on Seward for some time now. Apart from the fact that he likes being in the press, what is it that you reckon he has done so badly?

Besides being a media whore and making grandiose statements he hasn't been close to backing up its the fact he uses look at the start of every bloody sentence. He is an improvement on the last two clowns but it's not saying much.

OK. I never watch video interviews with him or any other blokes associated with the club. Takes too long :)

I reckon he's better than the last 3 clowns (Bentley, Edwards, Osborne). Particularly Osborne.....one of the silliest appointments we've made.

forgot about Bentley, so last 3. And agreed on Osborne he was an embarrassment.

But it just seems the club are happy to point the finger at the NRL and put it in the too hard basket. I reckon the club continually gets the shit end of the stick from this NRL so it's up to management to be much better than they currently are. Because only they can get us out of this shit.

Where have we gotten the "shit end of the stick" from the NRL in your opinion and what would you have done differently to how the club has handled these things you speak of?

There's no doubt that we are responsible for our own destiny. We get some bad calls from the NRL / MRC at times, but fans of every club reckon the same thing. What I do like about the current administration is that they are at least prepared to say that we have a systematic salary cap problem arising from an excess of back-ended contracts. Whether they are effective in getting the balance right is another issue, but the basic point makes sense. For too many years we mortgaged the farm for very short-term gains. I'd hope that we stick to our guns till the middle of next year at least....or Punxsatawny Phil will be out again.

We also appear to have "mortgaged the farm for very short-term gains" under the current regime. In it's statement in regard to our salary cap breaches, the NRL informed us that if we played certain players in 2014 that we would breach the salary cap... We chose to ignore those warnings. This is now one of the reasons why the NRL has threatened to deduct points from us next season if we do it again this year.

To be fair, the club has not yet reaponded to the preliminary breach notice and fines and sanctions have not been finalised.

I am hearing string rumours that we are challenging a whole heap of things in the breach notice

Yeah, but what will all that mean? The NRL just says "OK, start on -4 then".

Where do I start??? How many times did Schubert screw us over??? Not Signing Izzy, adding Fui's sons airfare to the cap. Hindy's book cover costing our cap 30k.

Week in week out getting the rough end of the refereeing decisions, barely winning a penalty count the last 4 years.

Junior Paulo getting 9 weeks, Mau getting two for the opposition player getting his head in the wrong position.

You ask what the club can do better??? Well fight Mau's charge for starters, it was a totally gutless decision not to challenge it you see accidents like that happen all the time. Not all the clubs ill's are the current boards making but whinging about how unfair the NRL and system are isn't going to get us nowhere.

The metaphor refers to the long-run future of the club, and the deliberate steps taken in our recruitment / resigning decisions that impact that. As far as i know, the NRL haven't yet finished considering our response to the 2nd tier breaches of 2014. And at the end of the day most of those decisions basically shifted our aggregate breach from one cap to the other. And the reason we were in trouble across all salary caps was largely down to previous decisions.

Having said all of that, I'm not suggesting that the current lot are free from any blame....they are not, and the decision to hire DA completely buggers me. But it seems that they inherited a mess (what a mess!).

Barry, how come the beneficiary's inherit a bigger mess each time their predecessors pass on their mess?

It's one club mate... It's not like we had the Ovo/Fitzy Parramatta Eels, Spags/Bentley Parramatta Eels and now Sharp/Seward Parramatta Eels...

It's still the Parramatta Eels

Dunno. Higher stakes as time goes by? Greater pressure from agents and an inability to deflect that pressure for fear of being chucked out at the next election? Your guess is as good as mine. I don't think anybody involved has intentionally tried to harm the club. It's just short-termism, and most of our fans exacerbate it....and I understand the emotion.

Nobody in this is 'whiter than white', but there is absolutely no way that we can continue with a series of radically back-ended contracts as the norm. No problem with contract that increase with the level of the salary cap, or with some contracts allocated to young blokes that we think will be seriously more valuable in a year or two.

Better off signing nobody else until we are clean as a whistle. Looking at the table right now we would be no worse off.
