Canberra isn't too expensive compared to the general incomes though

The high income is a myth unless you're a pube and only serves to make things more expensive for those that aren't.

Anyway didn't you f**k off in a huff?

It's getting better, but the last few years have been ridiculous tbh.

During that period it was ranked up there as one of the most expensive cities in Australia. All the shitty apartments and new suburbs they've put up have eased the population pressure a bit though, and the housing market on the whole is on the slide anyway while the APS is starting to grow again after being slashed by Abbott....

Still, if you want a good house for a family (with a yard and such, not the dogboxes in the new suburbs) you'd better have the ability to spend at least 700k, either on a house straight up or on reno/building work. Public transport is genuinely AIDS too, and utilities are quite expensive, so that doesn't help.

Great beer and wine though, so...

The APS just appeared to lose staff. I read a report the other week that the APS has the lowest employees it's had in almost 20 years in Canberra...however they're using more desks than they've ever used before... How does that work? Contractors my friend....welcome to the world of the easy money that is even easier to earn.

Fair enough.

I’ve only started looking at houses in the last 6 months just to get a feel for the market.

You get more for your money than you do in Brisbane at the price ranges we have been looking at.

Cost of food and drink when I have been there for work seems reasonable and in line with other cities.

Really, that surprises me. My ex girlfriend and I were looking at moving to Brisbane in around 2011 and Brisbane was way cheaper than Canberra.

Shit to do and water are fine if you're under 30. But if you've got family there are more important things. Being able to get home from work in 30 minutes is pretty important to a lot of people with more than just a cat waiting at home.

Sydney and Melbourne all depend on how much money you've got. I think Canberra is a great place to live too.
Canberra is far too fking expensive for what it is, though.

Amazingly Hobart in the news today as now having the most expensive housing. Low wages and high rents / prices puts them on top (or is that bottom)of the Housing Affordability Index.

Where abouts is that River Cottage Australia f**kwit based? I assume it’s near the south coast somewhere.
Tilba

The wife's aunt has a place just up the road from him. I've never cared enough to ask a single thing about him.

I had a bit to do with that. Central Tilba. The production company sold it last year for $800k.

It was screened in over 100 countries. Cha-ching.
