Well if a coach gets 12 years the board should get at least 15-20Over what period should a board's success be measured though? At the top their decisions could take years to translate to on field performance.

At this point Arthur has already proven his ability. Whether he is retained at this point or not comes down to political reasons related to the playing group, not whether or not he can coach. The board aren't yet proven either way, so your equivalence is false.Well if a coach gets 12 years the board should get at least 15-20
The conundrum on the coach is that if you sack the him, who do you actually replace him with?
There are alternatives, but there is no standout option, or a guarantee that another random option is really going to be any better. I think it is likely that any coach would've achieved just as much though, given the limitations of the current person.
I suspect a new coach would change the way the team plays, which I think is needed.
How the f**k could we know this? The only better option now is Slater but that's a pipe dream...
To be honest I don't think any of those are realistic options. The only better option now is Slater but that's a pipe dream...
Get Bellamy as GM in 2025 and Slater as coach pay them a billion dollars a season..
Have Cronk come in as halves coach and Smith as the Hooker coach..
Let them display their 2009 trophy in the main street of Parramatta if they turn us into a premiership winning club.
Option 2 is Bennett in 2025 for 2 seasons an then John Morris understudy the head coach..

I can only see Slater ever being an option for the Storm. It would be difficult to coach in Sydney when you have a business and life setup in Melbourne and unlikely to move here. He is already in the Top 5 paid people (non-players) in the NRL coaching 3 games per year. Why would he bother?
I also can't see Bellyache moving to Sydney. He will be involved with the Storm or not at all. His life will be in Melbourne or with his family in Queensland. If it a job that he can do mostly remotely (a GM role probably can be done part-time on site, and the rest from home), then maybe he is an option.
Bennett coached in NSW, but never lived in Sydney (Newcastle and Wollongong). I'm not sure he could be arsed at 74/75 to be move to NSW and live two hours away from training. I suspect he will be lined up to bring the new franchise into the NRL.
Did Bennett travel from the Gong to Redfern every day? What a mission. To be honest I don't think any of those are realistic options.

I think Manly still would have won.A Manly Eels Grand final in 2007 would have been amazing..
I think Manly still would have won.
They had our measure both times that season.
We didn't have anyone that would have been able to knock the Snake out of the match legally.
That is good point, he must have had a place not far away when he was at Souths.Did Bennett travel from the Gong to Redfern every day? What a mission.
Im still a fan. Brave Chooks have him locked up.I reckon Holbrook would be a better option than Arthur. Arthur is so stale.
I have met the majority of our Board members (both PLC and PNRL) and despite their professions they all have a desire to see us do well on the field. In fact, I have bumped into a few of them out and about at junior league games where their only interest is to watch the game (i.e. no family members playing, etc.)Given the majority if not all of the Eels board are business people rather than footy people, I don't think results are the be all and end all for them to base decisions off. They will look at the over 35K members and say we are successful. I would say only a significant drop in members, crowd numbers and sponsors and therefore income would agitate them to move on from the coach. But that takes a few years of losing seasons
So unfortunately I can't see anything changing anytime soon
I’d say those sides were still benefiting from the Brian Smith development era. By 2010 those benefits were mostly gone. There would’ve been nobody left on unders and a few back ended contracts filling up the cap.
The 2009 side only won 12 games during the regular season (one more than we did this year) and had a points differential close to zero. Not the sign of a strong team.
What do we do about breaching the NRL's cap on football operations, which is where coaches salary falls? The only better option now is Slater but that's a pipe dream...

Surely they're only on the board so they can hand out fat cleaning contracts to family members?!?I have met the majority of our Board members (both PLC and PNRL) and despite their professions they all have a desire to see us do well on the field. Yes they have a fiduciary responsibility (hello ASIC) to make sure the club performs well financially, but don't discount their desire and interest in the game and our onfield results.
