Well Perth should be the 18th team. Right timezone & they are craving RL.

FMD - Papua New Guinea were taking the piss putting a team there. Like seriously whose going to want to live in a resort prison ffs. What are the government going to build a dozen Westfields in there.

ARTHUR’S PNG PLAN

Sacked Parramatta coach Brad Arthur is open to helping a proposed Papua New Guinea NRL team.

Arthur has fielded several inquiries since being axed by the Eels last month, attracting interest from the English Super League, while assistant coaching roles in the NRL are also an option.

But with the ARL Commission set to announce PNG as the 18th or 19th NRL team in the coming months, Arthur has emerged as a candidate for the Pacific franchise.

With Wayne Bennett having been snapped up by Souths, Arthur could be a handy option for PNG given his 11 years of service at the Eels, whom he took to the 2022 NRL grand final.

Arthur’s manager Chris Orr said the former Eels mentor is passionate about growing the game and is willing to move to PNG to help set up a new club.

“Brad is all about developing the game of rugby league,” Orr said. “If the NRL wants his assistance in working with any of the bid teams then I am sure he will be only too happy to be involved.”

Well he definitely grew the game around Rouse Hill the last 11 years.

My little bird told me Perth has been given the go ahead. They’re next simply because the set up in PNG will take years. It’s happening there but they need to build so much it’s not funny.
Yeah I heard them talking about the PNG team on ABC radio last weekend and they were talking about how for the first 5 years, and this is after coming in to the comp in 2028 so we're talking until about 2033, the team would be based in Cairns. I think it was Carayanis from News Ltd who was saying it.

I just thought, what's the f**king point of that?

Bring on Perth I say. PNG folk are going to follow rugby league like mad cannibals regardless of whether or not they have a team based there. Grow the game somewhere else and use a location that opens up a whole new timezone and slot for the broadcasters at the same time.

Jets or Bears ???

I want the Bears back as the old man also played there but would be funny if the Newtown Jets did roll them and leave Norths stranded again.

The thing holding the Bears back is their insistence that a couple of home games be taken back to north Sydney. A Perth team would not want that. They would lose money, particularly with the lack of corporate facilities at North Sydney. If the Bears want in I reckon they use their name and logo but completely establish themselves out of Perth.
