Then there's the vastus medialis obliqus, vastus medialis, the soleus, the femoral epicondyle. Major atrophy of just abour every muscle in his leg.

Yep

Straight away I thought 'geez, his vastus medialis obliqus is gonna be f*cked...'

You have turned into quite the sniper haven't you?

About time you came up with a post that people actually read & take notice of yourself, before criticising other hey.
People actually read Frenzies posts in this area & Frenzy was the first person I spoke to in regards to this and many other incedents.
Not only does he have relevant career experience in the area, relevant personal experience in the area, but also a medical contact in this very area.
As far as pessimistic attitude, well, at least he doesnt repeat half arrseed whinges to a club official, in type, on public forum.
Who wouldthe CSSC have to talk to if you had have upset the honcho too much hey?

Gee, calling me a sniper...that's rich.

I wasn't criticising Frenzy at all..him and I discussed the injury soon after it happened, in fact we discuss many injuries that happen to our players...the last line was a little dig at him that was in no way serious.

I would recommend following some of your own advice and knowing the facts before you have a dig at someone. Jesus mate, if you're gonna jump on these forums take your cranky pants off first. Your sniping has been something that's kept me coming to these forums for years now...if you choose to have a dig at me (which I really don't mind) then please make sure the things that you are saying are based on fact and not your skewed perception on reality.

can you call that a flexion or extention or can you not name it either?
It would be a hyperextension...or as Frenzy mentioned in another thread, a sublux (incomplete dislocation.)

Frenzy.

I think we all knew in the back of our heads that this injury wasn't going to be 4 - 6 weeks. When any joint moves into such an irregular position there's going to be a lot of associated structures damaged. Just think of the muscle attachments around the knee joint - Gracilis, Sartorius, Biceps femoris, Semitendinosa, Semimembranosa, etc (upper leg muscles) all attach to the lower leg or there abouts and lower leg muscles such as Gastrocnemius and Plantaris attach to the upper leg (femur)....when you push all those muscles that far beyond it's normal range of motion you're going to be causing a lot of damage.

Now think inside the knee joint...inside the tibia, femur and patella and all of the ligaments associated with stabilising that joint...they're made to resist against minor movements exceeding range of motion....throw a leg that hard out of position and there will be some major tears happening. Forget the season...forget the first half of next season even...he'll have to go through a lot of rehab to get to walking let alone jogging, running, sprinting and strength training. It's very likely that he'll never be the same.

Good spot Frenzy for seeing through the post-match statements. I guess you're pessimistic attitude to everything has FINALLY gotten you somewhere!

I would of thought it was realistic rather than pessimistic. :)

I just commented on what I saw based on what I am trained to know. That's something I can contribute to. Others have expertise in other areas.

No big deal.

No one is blaming anyone. Not even me. However going by the disappointment of some posters here it could obviously of been handled better. The disappoinment comes from 4-6 weeks becoming infinite. No one here said 4-6 weeks. No point turning on each other on this issue.

It's about Tony Caine not any of us here.

Fair enough, I retract, if that is genuinely the case.

That has to be the dumbest statement I've ever heard on here. The advice would have come from the Sharks medical staff. You're not going to get a true indication of the extent of the injury until a MRI is done.

Give yourself an upper cut, mate.

They should have said nothing till the MRI had been done then. But they told Raper specifically 4 to 6 weeks.

Aren't they the guys Asterix and Obelix used to wallop.

Man, didn't caine ride the gamut of emotions this week. Selected to make his first grade debut and then almost crippled. Highs and Lows.

Only saw the tackle quickly on TV. I believe it was a Steven Price charge down.
From what I saw I thought Price's action should have been brought into question. There is a distinct difference between charging down the ball and diving at the kicking foot of a player.
I am pretty sure Nick Kosef got suspended for diving at the legs of playmakers when they kicked up field. If he wasn't suspended I know he at least got into hot water about it.
I can remember a photo in the paper of him deliberately diving at Matty Johns legs when manly played the Knights.
The Knights boys were complaining about the injuries they recieved.

As I said, I only saw it the once, but Price's actionswere far more fatal than had he gone high.

I love rugby league and the sharks ,-cant follow the sport i used to play as im too critical. With Sharks its all just positive... happy when they win ... Down when they dont! Only REALLY down side is when young bloke gets serious injury like this. These fellows do earn their money even if some of the top players contracts seem high.I wish him all the best and should recovery not be the best I hope club does right thing by him . BTW Hope to see a big turn out of Sharks supporters in Brisbane in a few weeks . Ill be there and dragging along at least 4 potential fans ... should be an easy 2 points .

Don't mean to be picky, but is the vastus medialis obliqus the same thing as the vastus medialis? And isnt the the epicodyle part of the bone?
