No one cares about RL in the media over there. GC had no choice because it would of been leaked anyway

There isn't anything in that article that suggests that, if for instance Manly or Souths come knocking that Tomkins can't seek to get his contract torn up with Wigan.

In fact the only thing Wigan that the Gold Coast haven't is announce the signing at half time via the big screen and put his picture on a website.

I guarantee you, if Tomkins was playing for a Sydney club rumours of him wanting to go back to England would have been around for months.

The rumours have been around for months anyway

''Gold Coast chairman Rebecca Frizelle'

EH, the word 'chairman' has nothing to do with being a male, it's origin comes from a Latin word "manus" meaning hand. So all the sexist crap you here from lefties and feminists about chairwoman or chairperson is absolute garbage.

Warriors fans who pay any level of attention have known he was going to go back since around this time last year at least. Only difference being NZ media are lazier and not as visible.

Wigan paid a transfer fee for him already so they would demand a transfer fee in return or just say no. And like others have said the speculation has been there for months.

So? That doesn't mean someone else can't step in and pay an agreed fee and/or negotiate a release.

The article was insinuating that the ESL had some magical system that prevented players from signing with teams a year in advance or backflip later on.

I't doesn't have any such thing, nor is Sam Tomkins signing for Wigan one year out any different than DCE signing with the Titans one year out.

Maybe Sam wanted out of the Warriors and had to get 'homesick' to get a release, he'd be far more useful in a team that doesn't consider structure just something to live in, not coming to one of the best teams was his biggest mistake . . . Joe Burgess will do what he should have done and might still do once he overcomes his malady

If DCE changes his mind the Titans just get f**ked over, if Tomkins changes his mind Wigan have the power to get compensation or refuse. How is that the same thing??

Because that's purely to do with the fact that he is under contract, nothing "special" about the ESL's rules

It would be the same if the Titan's had bought DCE's contract rights from Manly for next year.

The insinuation that the ESL "do it better" is pure bollocks.

Ok imagine he was off contract this year and decides to sign with Wigan. Once he signs its done there is no geniused cooling off period, if he changes his mind wigan still needs to release him for the contract he signed which would require compensation.

Its not a magical answer, they do it better because there is no cooling off period, is that hard to understand?

The only thing SL doesn't do better than the NRL is convince the English population that League is a worthy rival for Soccer or Union. Given that the refereeing is better and crowd participation more enthusiastic if League enjoyed the same exposure it receives here Australia would have to admit its shit stinks after all

Bennett having a major whinge. Calm down Wayne they are changing it! Given Gallen got fined for calling the nrl jerkins will Wayne be charged for his critiscm of them?

“It is a farce. It is a joke and it is embarrassing,” Bennett said of the round 13 mess.

“All of a sudden, someone at the top must have got embarrassed about it because now they are doing something when people such as myself have spoken about this for five or six years at least.

“Maybe someone at the top of our sport has realised they are looking like a laughing stock so they are doing something about it.

“The difficult part is someone making a hard decision and that’s what they don’t want to do.

“They are putting bandaids on something that is haemorrhaging.”

I've never understood why transfer fees do not exist in the NRL.

It's a fantastic incentive for clubs to develop their juniors. They can then only break a contract early if a club is willing to pay a transfer fee. Those that invest the most in their juniors, will ultimately reap the greatest financial rewards as a result.
