So as i see it Melbourne Storm will go on to win yet another premiership.( an good on them) but at the end of the day we have a competition which is supported by several milion people and we perserver with a team that represents 1 whole state and draws 15K people to a semi final!!. How many people will they generate when they happen to have a bad year??? Not F*#King Many!!
They have No Juniors ...No Leagues club ...No History...No Ties or Links to foundation clubs...No real supporter base....No real size homeground.....No TV coverage and No major growth after winning several premierships.

SO SHOULD WE MAYBE HAVE A SIDE IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY OR PNG INSTEAD?? the talent pool in both locations would benifit the NRL as well as both the local communities ..isnt that of more benefit to the game and its supporters?????. Come on arent we trying to expand???

PS..it has nothing to do with hating sides.. we all love to hate sides!!! like Manly, Easts Brisbane etc.. But i would never dream for a minute to get rid of them, they are all thats good about Rugby League..!!.they have the most passionate supporters the game has, and we need teams that can provide more of them.

And still they'd probably rape your team

Get of your anti-storm agenda. Appreciate the great team that Melbourne are instead of whingeing like a bitch

You do realize that Olympic park only really holds 15000 people right?

Olympic Park was at or very close to capacity for their semi. History schmistory. In 20,50, 100 years they'll have history like everyone else. Juniors will grow in Victoria. Never match AFL, but still. No real supporter base is just a lie. They're getting a new homeground, purpose built for RL. TV coverage is the NRL and Neins fault. And how would you know about growth? Wait til the kids growing up watching them hit adulthood, have their own kids who support and play RL, then get back to me. Creating new teams is not a 5-10 year prospect.

And the dumbest thing you said is having an NT or PNG team. Horrible horrible idea.

Well there ya go, only 15K ?? and it wasnt a ful house. Look i have nothing against the team as such but quite the opposite, they are an exiting and succesful team yet they still only gererate very little suport. I am thinking of the overall benifit of the game of rugby league. Lets take AFl for example and the swans, at there best they fill a near 50K ground plus support in Vic plus have live games broadcast in Sydney and Melbourne. Truly we could pick the storm team and place them in Tassie and have the same result,a great team but adding nothing to the NRL's future.

Last year's GF got 900,000 viewers in Melbourne and so did the year before that. Only the Brisbane area could get that kind of number on a per club basis.

It wasn't full, but it was at over 90% capacity, and add to that the Storm V Eels 2007 Preliminary Final in Melbourne outdrew the Manly's Preliminary final at the SFS.

The Storm are moving into a purpose built 33,000 seat stadium in 2010, which will likely see them drawing higher crowds than 75% of the Sydney NRL clubs.

I thought league supporters had established all those empty seats were a bad look. Do we need another white elephant like telstra?

It's not going to have 65,000+ empty seats every week, or be configured for oval sports ala ANZ. Given that the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium is 33k seats, they would have terrific atmosphere by drawing crowds of 17k+ and closing off the upper tier.

They are treading water regarding support whilst having an outstanding team. Heaven help them when they start losing.

The problem is they can't really build support while playing out of Olympic Park, they have outgrown the stadium. The big positive however is that the city of Melbourne has a culture of ticketed memberships which reduces crowd fluctuations due to on-field performance.

The Storm may have been treading water over the past 5 years, but they are a single season away from starting to swim.

They are treading water becuase the Olympic park is a hell hole.

AFL supporters have turned soft after only having Telstra dome and the MCC for games for quite a while and can not stand sub standard grounds.

You would think they are placed in a third world country when having to visit skilled stadium the way they complain and that is a pretty good stadium.
