Sorry for the tardiness on this one

Obviously a shit night altogether from the way we started the match, to the injuries and then ending the game with 11 players.

The first 20 minutes was atrocious and the rest of the game should in no way cloud that fact. The first 60 seconds told us what type of night it would be when we dropped the ball first tackle, lost a challenge and then conceded a try. Dropping the ball first tackle was a mistake but it happens. You don't challenge that shit, you defend your line and move on. Hell, concede a penalty on the scrum if you want and get out of there with only 2 points on the scoreboard. The left side defence needs serious work.

From there the team did what this team has a horrible habit of and compounded the nightmare start by not completing a set (outside of when we got a penalty) until near on the 15 minute mark and forgetting how to tackle. From there we had the two concussions and then Dom had a brain explosion and it looked like something embarrassing was on the cards.

From the point of the send off the boys showed the type of team they can be winning the rest of the way and easily. I'm definitely proud of them sticking in there and nearly winning but I'm hoping the focus this week is the first 20 minutes because that is what cost us the game. The Radley binning was a joke but that seemed to further galvanise them.

I will say I thought our dumbest play was the short drop out at 20-0 down with one minute to go int he first half. You go long there, back your defence and get to the sheds. The Dogs are unlikely to score under that scenario and it ultimately cost us the game IMO. The right result happened though as we didn't deserve to win the game based on the first 20 minutes.

2nd half obviously much better for the reasons mentioned but if we just play a normal football game to start we probably win quite well.

3 Manu
2 Keary
1 JWH - thought he was the only one that tried to do something in that first 20 minutes

So our next performance will dictate if that that 2nd half propels this team or masks the cracks IMO. We won't have Teddy, Walker, S Smith, Billy Smith, Young or Leniu but I don't care, we still have enough talent to win this game. I could cop a loss if the effort and performance is there but either way I'm expecting much better than that first 20 minutes.

Christ that’s a lot of outs against an in-form Knights at Newcastle.

The game now feels a bit of a blur as I had bugger all idea what I was watching. Simply bizarre footy. There were comments in the match day thread stating Keary played better with Sammy off the field. Hard to judge as everyone played better after the disastrous first half but I certainly hope it’s not the case.

While I’m proud of the comeback, especially with a man (then two) down, can’t hide my disappointment in their first half effort. These are games you expect to win and improved your for and against. Instead our season is starting to look like the last couple of years’ poor starts.

3. Manu
2. Keary
1. Watson

Grossly unfair to Sam IMO. He got concussed in the 18th minute at which point I think we had two completed sets and were 18-0 down. He and Keary were given absolutely no chance by that point to do anything. He shares responsibly defensively with everyone else but Keary playing better in the 2nd half had everything to do with the rest of the team pulling the finger out too.

On the Knights game, I'm not sure how good of form they are in with their wins coming against Dragons and Storm (who were injury riddled like us) both at home. Having said that our two wins aren't really holding up either, especially the souths one. Our forward pack is still relatively injury free and looks better than theirs, that's where we need to win this game. I'm expecting something similar to the Knights/Storm game, hopefully we are on the right side of the scoreline.

That first half was one of the most bizarre things I have seen. Absolutely inexplicable. Agree on everything else said.

Hard to give points but:

3 - Manu
2 - Keary
1 - Cheese

Fingers crossed this week.

Zero... for all players for their "effort" in the first half. The worst performance I've witnessed for 15 years.
