Dollars to spend??

Ok if we cut loose the players we assume are going, what sort of money will that free up to buy other players. Anyone on here got any idea.

I don't think that's correct. The Primary cap ($3.35 mill in our case due to Peachey's allowance) covers the highest paid 25 - "The Top Squad", but due to the Newtown thing we are carrying more than 25 players.

More like 35 contracted.

There are 31 training as the top squad.

I like many thought our top squad was 30 or 35 but confirmation from someone in the football club is that we are carrying on 25 as always.

The money has to be coming from somewhere to pay all the extras? Where?

The one that is actually only supposed to be used when players outside the top 25 play in the NRL?

Not sure Cap'n, isn't the Pl cap higher than that ? The figure $1.3m pops into mind, and there are different rules for teams that field an NRL side + Pl side, as opposed to just an NRL side. (or only a PL side in Newtown's case)

I don't know either then B_S. I didn't know the NSWRL had it's own cap and even if they do surely the players contracted to the Sharks wouldn't come under Newtown's cap. I mean they are not paying them. Blokes like Merritt, Mellars, Harlen, Dumas, Scott, Ciraldo, C Manua and Green are all as far as I know contracted to the Sharks. Only 2 can be in the 25 man top squad for cap purposes as we've already used 23 players besides them. So 6 of them are getting paid from where?

It's also a question on who on earth there is left worthy of spending it on. I'd rather the club keep it than spend it on second and third choice players just because other clubs have got our first choices IE

It's my information that BAiley from the dragons is a gold coast man for sure after signing a one year deal with the dragons.

Cayless from the roosters is almost certainly going to Hull or possibly one other UKSL team.

I'm not saying you're wrong here Captn but Pierce and Rodgers both said in Mar- April we had not spent to the limit and had money in reserve if and when we needed it.

In fact my reading of events was that with those comments (I think about Willie0 we opened up the pre June 30 crap way back then.

I remember them saying it too Chond but there is a history in our club of spin doctoring and saying what "needs" to be said. All clubs probably.

The thing is, we have contracted players running around in PL who have reportedly been signed at around $100k. There's a fairly common belief Merritt is on $180k (I doubt it). If blokes in PL are on $100k-$180k and not in the top 25 highest payed players how much are the Top 25 getting?

It's really complicated this year it seems. Hard to get answers as well.
