I must say, I am surprised that so many people seem to be against this decision...most people think we are supposed to be in the market for a halfback...whatever emotions may be felt toward Finch he is a genuine halfback, a very good player, has plenty of experience and has the game to complement Soward very well. It also helps that he's one of the better defensive halfbacks in the competition. He's down on form this season but he is a very good player IMO and would fit well here.
Bennett will have to make a extremely tough decision here and tbh I don't envy it. It's a dilemma either way you look at it...
*How important is securing Finch, or any other halfback for that matter?
*And where does this leave Hornby after naming him club captain?
Going to fullback would have been the natural proposition for mine but Boyd going so well at fullback Beau Scott going so well in the centres (although he can play back row), even Morris' form on the wing has complicated matters...as has the possibly of Sailor staying on...
Hooker is probably the best option for him to ensure team balance and it means that we wouldn't need to go into the market for a hooker...but then he's not a long term option for hooker either...and you have two stop gap options here (although admittedly Young will play more at lock)
We could always bench him (and relieve him of the captaincy) or release him (do the delight of some people here, I am sure) but I doubt those scenarios will occur given that he's been named captain.
