Dragons Chasing UK Half

Just to entertain the idea that there is truth to this for a second...

I think if we are going to look to Super League then we should be looking at current England rep players and playing for one of the top clubs. I was just looking who actually partnered Widdop in the halves against NZ and it looks like Matty Smith and George Williams who debuted, both play for Wigan. Williams is 21 and has already played a few seasons. Those are signings I could potentially get behind. I did notice that Luke Gale was in the Super League team of the year which is something but still, doesn't play for a strong club.

Wouldn't bother with Sandow, just not worth it.

Until the Dragon sort out their finances or can attract TPA's, we won't be able t sign the top tier of players we need. It'll be more bargain buys & juniors. The problem as everyone can see, is our retention of the right juniors...

Not interested in grabbing anyone from the Super League as it would take a while for them to get used to the style of play in the NRL.

We should be looking at the top halves in the Queensland Cup, or throw some more money at Nikorima/Coote.

That Titans five eigth that debuted today looks pretty good.

They have Kane Elgey, Ash Taylor, Cullen & Tyrone Roberts.

Besides Tyrone Roberts all there halves look to be stars of the future, definately capable half backs that would be a great fit to our side.

I assume Elgey and Taylor will be there 6 & 7 next year, maybe we should try snare that Cullen kid.

The south-east nursery is not a let down. Our management are.
Think of Hastings & Bird. The players come through. We just are uable to keep them.

I would rather we signed 2-3 young halves with potential for 200-300k, like Mellor, than place all our eggs on 800k for Norman

Ask Canberra for who they use to scout players and use him. All the poms that they have brought to the club have been absolute gems......

Having watched Wallace play he is the best number 7 we have in my opinion. He has a great kicking game , plays first receiver both sides , barks at his forwards telling them what he wants them to do[/B] , runs direct , has a blinding turn of speed , plays what he sees and a great ability to run at slow tired forwards.....and not to mention a great passing game both ways....Maybe his defence might not be the best but i would urge Mary to go and watch him play when he is not being stuffed around at hooker and off the bench . He is a young number 7 that could be anything if properly managed .

This.

We haven't had a decent barker since Sowie.

Much needed.

Sign him on and give him a crack at some point.

hes not even getting the Cutters half gig.. this is what ive been blabbering out all year, opportunity costs by keeping the wrong players.. unless there is 2 serious injuries, we seem to be putting our faith in McCrone, Hutch & Nona, Hutch in particular.. I dunno.. he probably needs a half season in cutters, but is hes not going to get chances when they come up (and he hasnt, McCrone has), I reckon its decision time.. play him in 1sts when someone is injured.. or boot him.. its 1 or the other though.

if you want just safe depth, McCrone will give you that.. though id much prefer Nona or Wallace, and a chance at something unexpected.

Dragsters..I like the bark he has as well ..Much needed for a 7 .

It seems we have made the decision to let Benji go at seasons end and the Widdop / Benji combo has never really worked . So after a few more games if it is still not working why not give Wallace a contract for the rest of the year and give him a crack ..It couldn't possible be worse . You never know our next 7 could be sitting right under our nose . If he is not up to it then move on a chase other options ..Nothing lost but a huge gain if it works out .

Wallace would sign on for the bare minimum, and I know we must have around 500k free from the roberts failed bid.

However.. I do feel we would potentially be setting whoever it is up for failure, particularly Wallace who is not even getting time at NSW Cup level, it would be nice to have gotten half a dozen games in the right position before throwing them into 1st grade.. the key for me is identifying the talent.. and getting them into the right position asap.

As for 1st grade, to be fair we really did set up 18 or 24 points against the Broncos, ludicrous finishing was to blame.. Cowboys not so good but may have been different if we hadnt let in silly tries... but we will score points again, we have been quite unlucky (plus were missing a right winger which is mostly to blame), we may well score well against the GC, maybe also the following games.. I think its not just about 'more points', for me its just trying to find the right jigsaw pieces in 1st grade, and reward the NSW Cup performers.

How is it that the Titans can come up with halves at the drop of a hat and yet we continually stuff around and end up with nothing.

Wallace has plenty to offer. He's an easy target at Penrith for his "apparent" lack of talent but the guy is a solid half. His defence, kick options and reliability is worth the risk.

Most panthers fans will tell you he's a shit merkin with no talent but Its easy to blame halves for not performing and deflect blame elsewhere.

Would be a solid sighing but with segeyaro coming to you guys it's likely he'll be offered a contact at the panthers.

God help us, surely we can find a half that is better than any of these guys

Gale is a highly talented player. have seen many games in ESL and he had a big season last year.

Sandow i would take if he's right mentally. Never know, the UK trip might have helped him.. He's certainly playing very good! Then again, we'd no doubt stifle him by playing boring structured footy that isn't actually very well structured in the first place ...

Gale can't be that good if you'd still take Sandow. I'd imagine Sandow is doing better because defence isn't as good in Super League as the NRL is.
