If they want to not piss off anyone, and really have to change the name, why not call themselves The Big Red V....

Easiest option is to go with St.George- Illawarra Dragons.... oh wait they already are

Btw just coz they merged, doesn't mean the Dragons didn't win all their premierships, whoever think that they've only won one, is just trolling, i don't give two shits if they call themselves "the" that miracle run of 11 premierships in a row, should never be looked down upon... so many of the immortals came from the dragons era of dominance, its absolutely being disgraceful if you think otherwise

Funded by Illawarra money? Steelers don’t own any of the club, completely broke. Claiming WIN TV as “Illawarra money” is laughable. Should we call Souths “Hollywood Rabbits” because they’re owned by Hollywood money? Our biggest income sources are St George Bank, and membership revenue (which is mostly Sydney based). St George Leagues kept the club alive on more than one occasion.
Best option is St George Dragons playing full time in Gong, aside from 1 Kogarah game and alternate Anzac.

It's the Saint George Dragons for fks sake! If you're a supporter nobody gives a rat's arse if you come from Dapto or the Dandenongs. Who gives a sht about Illawarra? Fk off! Cronulla can get fkd too! The Dragons come from Kogarah and we own everything from Bexley North to the Cooks River, out to the islands off the coast and south to Cooma.

I reckon purely because they are based in Wollongong, the name Illawarra needs to stay, nowadays juniors come from everywhere, fiji, png, nz, aus.. they have lost their "catchment" in terms of the areas in sydney to the sharks junior comps... so going off the fact that they are also heavily investing in the illawarra region for this new COE and its junior teams, it really need to stay... as far as "St.George" part turffing that wouldn't be that bad, but thats a lot of great history, it would be a shame to do that... "southern sydney" isnt right, as its really not, technically folks who don't know the actual geography of sydney, think that the sharks are between each end of illawarra and stgeorge, its also incorrect, yes you might have to drive thru some of it, but its mostly east of kogarah, and north of Wollongong, so really on a map not really impeading, not like the dogs stuck in the middle of the JV of the tigers

Too long probably reason they dropped it in first place. But makes sense as St George did slay the Dragon in the fairy books, which when you think of them dropping the 'slayers' and simply calling themselves the St George Dragons was a nonsense. It stuck and fans did not give a fig. It spurned a world record premiership dynasty after all.

The Taj Mahal is based in dead centre of Dragons territory. St George juniors are still represented in underage rep footy so still an ample St George area nursery. Basing the Centre of Excellence in the 'Gong tho may be a sticking point for the Front Office to abandon the Illawarra side of the merger. Hope not as personally I'd give my left ball for us to be back as a stand alone club, the club I have supported for closing on 60 years.
