Dragons Lowest Point

We haven't hit Rock Bottom yet mark my words.
When Ben Hunt arrives on his One Million + dollar contract - that's 1/6 of the cap, there's going to be massive cuts to our roster.

This will kill the club once and for all. Hunt is worth 550 max. It's a ridiculous contract that was passed by our uninspiring management.

Even after his "disappointing" year (only in comparison with 2015) last year, he is arguably the 3rd best halfback in the competition behind Thurston and Cronk. 1 mil a year is what the top halfbacks get these days.

Notice how our coach and captain didn't seem to think there is much wrong with the way the Dragons played. This attitude has crept in since the early days of the Price era and now could be one of the main reasons why our Club is not progressing.

Club management should be held accountable and be held to account however, unfortunately the system is rigged to make it extremely difficult to rid ourselves of these people.

There is no logical reason for Mary to continue as our coach and for Widdop to remain in first grade. The time has come for Coyne to exert his influence and bring some sensibility to the management of the first grade squad.

Of course the coach and captain don't seem to think any things wrong Possum and put it out amongst us because deep down they know everyone is thinking they are...its obvious they are not going to fall on their respective swords so their in denial...unfortunately as you point out theres other behind the scenes that's responsible as well......on a side note sometimes signing players (Hunt etc) a year out can sometimes be an issue because players, supporters and the like get the mind set that things will be different next year..in the meantime nothing changes.....bit like waiting for the undercoat to dry before you give it the finishing top coats.....just my opinion at this stage

For the life of me, how does any professional organisation give its coach a 5 match review at the start of a new season?!! How did they not get rid of him last year? It just defies logic.

Straight Shooter

It was even worse with Price when they carried out the review, leaked the news he was staying, denied the leak and then a few days later confirmed Price was staying only to sack him halfway through the next season.

Excellent.

Barrett will come back as coach to replace Mary.

Thats how we roll.

I wonder if he remembers how it hurt when Brownie slapped him.....jeez if hes coming back as coach he'd better toughen up his mits ... with our mob at the moment his hands will be red raw

No. The team now is actually quite good except for the worst halves in the competition by a mile.
All said tongue in cheek my friend.. I do agree though re most of the team is going ok except as you say the worst halves in the comp....and who would have thought that this proud club of ours steeped in history would every claim that title....and just for the record I don't think Barrett will be our next coach

So true. The problem is so obvious that it is Widdop that it is ridiculous how Mary cannot pick it. Commentators were saying they feel sorry for Widdop as he is now an organiser and a playmaker? WTF? McCrone did his job fine, The forwards made meters, the backs did what they can. He on the other hand made error after error due to his lack of skill in that position. Makes you realise how good Cronk is to make him look that good and how tough it will be for the 7 whoever gets picked.

The way that can happen is that, noone was willing to come here or to stay here as head coach.
Many take the rumour mill as gospel thinking we let JD go and Des is coming, all of that could be bull shit and the reality is we had noone willing to do it but Mc Gregor.
If the above is correct then stating pre season, if results were not forthcoming that Mary would be gone by round 6 and would be replaced by Hornby or Young would have caused a riot.
To avoid that situation you need to create a different set of circumstances and it appears that could be possibly unfolding now.
Of course this all theory, but I believe somewhat explains how it could happen.
If it did come to fruition, then Young Snr and Doust are more cunning and deceitful than people give them credit for.

The halves are shocking but they are not responsible for the easy metres the opposition get when they roll down through the middle of our forwards.
Our forwards best defensive work is when we are within 10m of our goal line but far too many long range breaks from offloads are made against us.
The attacking side poor through the holes in our much vaunted "D", we struggle to get back on side and then the attack either passes or kicks out to the wings and the overlap and inevitable tries appear.
We keep talking it up including our forwards because we look at players individually but as a team most components of our game are shit house and the scoreboard invariably reflects it.

It worries me that the coach was talking up the D when even in 2015, our defence was good at stopping tries but gave up meters and always gave the opposition attacking plays around our 20m line towards the end of their set.
All our efforts were spent trying to get back towards the half way.
We always make the opposition look good in attack because we take 2 steps forward then wait for the playmakers to do their thing and find runners or make a kick.
The "D" is very important but you need to defend territory not just the ingoal.
Watching games when Bennet was in charge you could see the opposition make not more than 40m each set.
It was like watching a chess game where we applied pressure with our defence and eventually we got to start our sets from around the half way.
Did none of the senior players (esp. Hornby) learn anything when Bennet arrived and had them dominating straight after the first off season?
