Does this mean that if the team is relocated from the "gong to Sydney or Campbelltown (which I thought Wests Tigers covered) our juniors here would be able to move on to other clubs without worrying about the Dragons? We have opened up a new feeder club for the Dragons, will that go as well to support another NRL club?

Campbelltown won't happen, the Tigers will make sure of that before we factor in any other issues.

As for lower grades, if it ends up that WIN Stadium is deemed not fit for NRL standard games and forces Kogarah to be used for all home games, I can see Shellharbour being given the arse as our feeder side and the Steelers returning playing out of WIN in Reserve Grade.

My concern SGL, is that the juniors will end up at other clubs. Those n the south will gravitate to Canberra and the Illawarra upper South Coast will go to Cronulla, Souths, Easts especially if it means they will pick up a NSW Cup side.

Illawarra is a huge junior pool, and players are always going to slip though the cracks to other clubs no matter how many junior rep teams there are in the area (Brett and Glen Stewart as examples).

My idea, if the Dragons move permanently to Kogarah, gives a number of positives: it gives local juniors a team to aim for locally (Steelers), gives them a pathway to the NRL (Dragons), maintains the current set-up at a junior level (seperate HM and SG Ball teams), and leaves a team in the Illawarra at a competitive level.

I don't think we will move into Campbelltown...pretty sure that was wishful thinking from someone who probably lives there

I think what will probably happen is that the Shellharbour Dragons will probably end up being the future feeder for the Dragons. It's a lot cheaper than propping up the Illawarra junior rep teams. It gives kids from the region a chance to stay local and still have a chance of making the NRL. But all the same it leaves the region open for other clubs to pillage.

Perhaps St George Leagues should stop talking to Steelers Leagues about juniors in 2011 and start talking to Illawarra Leagues? Bigger, more financially viable club that has stronger links to the local Carlton League.

I've never been to Illawarra leagues, didn't think of it as "big"? Steelers is not even one of the biggest clubs in the region, don't know how it was ever propping up the Illawarra Steelers as it is dwarfed by the likes of Collies, Shellys, Wests and Dapto Leagues, perhaps even Master Builders as well. Anyways with Shellharbour moving to the Carton League is really going to consolidate the relationship and then the Dragons will probably start talking.

Illawarra Leagues isn't that big either (next block down from City Diggers), but it is bigger than Steelers and was the home of representitive Rugby League in the area prior to the NSWRL establishing the Steelers (the NSWRL and Illawarra Leagues didn't get along). I can see Shelly's taking over RL in the region (Builder's tend to stick with local amateur teams, Wests + Collies + Dapto support their own teams and are happy doing just that), and Shellharbour RLFC particularly since the Sharks/Marlins have accomodated the Dragons so much they have changed their seniors name 3 times in 3 years (Shellharbour Sharks, Shellharbour Marlins, Shellharbour City Dragons). Might have to do a few reno's at Ron Costello Oval though, that place is a bit of a dive!

We could put a roof on tthe Eastern Stand to start with.

It's not a bad ground there. They do play a lot of footy there with the juniors, Sharks and now Shellharbour City Dragons.

I dont get how Win could be deemed not fit for NRL standard, it is fine at the moment and yes could do with a Western Grandstand replacement but it is hardly a woeful ground.

Builders seem to sponsor all the Uni sides, they sponsor my soccer club and also the rugby and cricket sides.

WIN is in need of a dire refurbishment. The paths around the hill are falling apart, the western and southern grandstands are looking very tired with very little in the way of facilities, and the services offered at the ground are very poor. There is a lot that needs to be done at Wollongong.

P.S. The cheap beers at the Builders Club after a cricket game for Uni was fantastic!

More fans? Based on the two trials we've had this month, we have more fans in Perth than we do in Wollongong.

The home win record is about evens overall. Bit hard to call since 1999 as there have been more than twice as many games at Wollongong (66 to 30).

Home Wins %
Kogarah 1921-1998: 70%
Wollongong 1982-1998: 48%
Kogarah 1999-2008: 57%
Wollongong: 1999-2008 65%

Crowds Average (1999-2008)
Kogarah 13,322
Wollongong 12,646

It was a pretty miserable weather leading up to the game Willow, alot of families wouldn't have taken there kids knowing that there was a strong chance of rain..

It was overcast for the lead up, rain was predicted and it pissed down about 1 hour after the game.
