Throw Quinlan into that mix.
I think we are a real chance although I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I dislike a lot of what Bellamy brings to the table but he does also bring success and a great culture - 2 things we have lost in the last 12 months.
His Big 3 at Melbourne are aging and he would have an opportunity here to build something from scratch again. Why?? Because that's what good coaches love to do. Slater/Cronk/Smith...... Cummins/Drinkwater/King Massive call I know but just putting it out there.
You really think the Cheating Overlord would leave those players and that environment (not to mention the sneaky side-payments) to come here?
For the right money.... Absolutely. Add another 12 months of NRL onto those 3 players. Slater will be slower, Smith slower, and Cronk will follow him wherever he goes.
The culture Bellamy has built at the Storm should be admired. The stars he has and have started with him,and the journeyman who have played for the Storm have fitted into his system . The wrestling tactics are dirty but ingenious to use in todays game ,it is up to the ARLC to put the brakes on this concept used by all clubs now.You really think the Cheating Overlord would leave those players and that environment (not to mention the sneaky side-payments) to come here?
Mate ,i will certainly get over it when the announcement is made but until then we are certainly in the mix and i remain hopefull. We will not be getting bellamy, get over it
i will be happt to have egg on my face if we do but we wont get him so get over it.

I think the best way to view any marquee player or coach, is that they are always more likely to stay where they are than to move on. When their contracts come up for renewal, they usually act like they are canvassing offers from rival clubs, but most are only saying that to keep the management of their current club guessing, with the prospect of receiving an increased offer to stay uppermost in their minds. Being a marquee means you are in the drivers seat, and there's no basement bargains to be had by whoever signs you.
So I'd be expecting an announcement by Bellamy that he's staying at the Storm will most likely be made before the season starts.
DD, I think you are right. Most coaches move on because they are not wanted (Sheens, Smith, Bennett, Stuart, Anderson, Kearney, Henjak, Elliott, Brown, to name just a few) or have won a GF (Hasler, Bennett, Hagan).
Bellamy would only move for the money, I reckon, and I don't think we could match what News Ltd would offer him as they are going to sell their interest in the club. I should qualify my comments with the fact I can't stand the guy. He has introduced most of the crap into the game.
Im glad you will ;-)Thanks for the tip, so many sleepless nights worrying about whether we would or we wouldn't. I will sleep better tonight.

If we don't i certainly won't be slitting my wrists.
ST GEORGE Illawarra's bid to snare Craig Bellamy from Melbourne threatens to be undermined by a drastic cut in the club's funding from the St George Leagues Club.
The Dragons have been among the prime movers in the race to secure Bellamy from 2014 -- The Weekend Australian was told the club had informed coach Steve Price of its plans to speak to the premiership-winning mentor.
However, the Dragons' financial state could significantly affect that pursuit. While Bellamy would no doubt help the club with corporate support, the ultimate decision on where he coaches after next season will no doubt be influenced by the football budget he has at his disposal.
This was taken from the Australian newspaper and there's more on it
Just back from a weekend at Oberon, and on Saturday afternoon whilst winning on the horses at the RSL I meet a real keen Dragon supporter in his 60's I would say. He tells me each time the Dragons issue a new juernsey he buys it, must have a lot of them. However, on the subject of Bellamy he told me his family is from nearby Portland and his Mum is not all that well and the story is he wants to live closer to her and the Gong is much closer than Melbourne. He is very confident of Bellamy to Dragons!! Local knowledge.
If we miss out on him, the funds will be used to purchase enough alcohol to last everyone for next season.
