Dragons Predicted Wooden Spooners

The club has already stuffed up signing coaches Neil Henry, Wayne Bennett (2nd time) Ivan Cleary......so I'm sure Des Hasler will just follow in knocking back the basket case. They'll go for some reject like Laurie Daley as an outsider surrounded by the inner circle old boys brigade.

I'm sure all of us, optimist or pessimist, would like this scenario. Although it would only work if we replaced Mary with a decent coach from outside the club. If Hornby or Dean Young take over then we're still Wooden Spoon contenders for sure.
Our second half defence in the CS was as bad as anything we offered up last year, if not worse. If we don't fix that first we will get the Spoon. Oppositions will know if they get down to our twenty, there's points for the taking and all that takes is a penalty or hard running forwards up the middle to get you into our red zone.
You are right. I should have added the caveat that if a good coach from the outside is brought in.

Our great club does have serious issues and they will take some time to recover if,at all.
Mate that is the problem we have wasted years with Price and Mary , we should have been rebuilding after Price , but instead we are in reverse while other clubs can see their issues and are addressing them . Like you say it will take some time to recover , the problem is do we have time ?

It is still unbelievable that they appointed a rookie and then replaced him with an even less experienced rookie. And then when he failed, instead of sacking and replacing him with an experienced coach, they then employ a committee and gave him training wheels.

Brissy its hard to take ..... It should have been JD coaching this year , we will never know now how it would have been with him coaching ......

This situation reminds me of one of those giant jig-saw puzzles .The only problem is that there are a number of pieces missing . Of course without these pieces the whole thing is bluudy useless .

Such is the case with the Dragons - a coach who is clueless , lack of a suitable halves combination . Add to this , are players who are out of positions , which completely stuffs up any co-ordination in both attack and defence .

Each of us realises just what needs to be done to find a solution to the problem , but until the stumbling blocks have been permanently remove , we will continue to ride this merry-go-round until the end of the year .

However I do believe that we possess too many decent players , to finish where the those mud-slingers of the media predict . In fact should the team , hopefully , manage to win a number of their early matches , we could very well be further up the ladder then what we now believe .
The season has not begun as yet , and I do think that we will all have something to cheer about , just give it a bit of time .

It is hard to take. But really, we should have gone hard for Des in 2011 as soon as Wayne said he was leaving. As much as I respect JD, I am hesitant in endorsing another rookie although JD is certainly the pick of the bunch.

Geez a depressing thread.

When was the last time the dragons even got the wooden spoon?

I would take a guess it was in the 1930s?

I recall my dad saying they were one of the lowest (if not the lowest) of the clubs and they certainly never got the spoon while he was involved in the club and his involvement went back to the early 1940's. I know they have never got the spoon while I have been a supporter and I also go back aways....

I am sure that if Price was left in charge, we also would have been favourite for the wooden spoon. However, we sacked Price and put someone in charge with similar talent and experience. Now it's time to sack this fraud and call for the head of those Board members who so forcefully supported his continuance.
Price has proven to be a quality assistant coach. Two premierships in 6 years.

Did not cut as head coach but must add something as an assistant.

Perhaps Mary is the same, shame really loved him as a player.

I am on the #OustDoust train, your club deserves better.

I agree - I can't remember this happening and I have been going for the Dragons since 1975.

I used to remember ( obviously before Price and Mary ) that a top 4 or top 8 was a given .

If we had a good coach, our halves situation would be a non issue. Responsibility for everything lays at the feet of the clubs management and head coach.

That was indeed the point that I was attempting to make , a clueless coach whom is responsible for the disjointed halves and for players not in correct positions . As you have said , both management and coaching issues - the stumbling blocks that must be removed before this club can progress any further .

We actually finished much higher on the ladder than we should have last year.

I can think of at least 4 or 5 games we were lucky to win. 2 games against a depleted Cows and Storm team, who would have lapped us had they been full strength. Canberra gifted us a game at Kogarah, the GI brain snap in the rain, Duges bailing us out in the last minute against the Panthers.

All these games we could have easily lost. And remember Parra lost their points allowing us to finish above them. Plus we were lucky to have 2 games against the Knights, one of which we almost lost. Believe me, we were a lot closer to the spoon last year than we realise.

And with the Knights on the rise after thumping the Raiders in their trial, it's really no surprise we're favourites for the spoon now.
Good points. Very depressing indeed.

we'll have to try our very best with each player & the coach at full capacity plus have results go our way to win the wooden spoon.

Still existing is the real challenge.

The Real problem that concerns me is that the longer the club allows the current situation to continue then whoever takes over has inherited a monumental mess. The team has been playing with ineffective tactics for years and these can become part of their playing habits. A new coach will have to totally strip back and rebuild the side in terms of plays, shape, attacking structures etc.
The sooner the club acts the easier the long term rebuild becomes with an experienced coach who can mentor the players and build up their confidence again.
