The St George Illawarra Dragons today announce that front-rower Mitch Allgood has re-signed with the Dragons for one season.

The off-contract Allgood will now remain at the Club at least until the end of the 2019 NRL Telstra Premiership Season.

While the 29-year-old Allgood never featured in the top grade in 2018, he proved a valuable asset to the entire first grade playing squad and was duly awarded the Instrust Super Premiership Coach’s Award at the end of season awards evening.

Mitch Allgood awarded ISP Dragons Coach's Award

The Brothers Penrith junior has played 70 NRL games to date in previous seasons at the Parramatta Eels. Allgood also played 38 Super League games with Hull KR and Wakefield prior to joining the Dragons last season.

“We are really pleased that Mitch chose to stay on for another season he is extremely well respected by the staff and playing group,” said Dragons’ Director Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward.

“We offered him another contract because of his experience and his eagerness and ability to help with our culture and the development of young players.

“He was close to playing first grade last season, missing out only due to injury when the opportunity arose. We expect numerous players to be called upon for Origin next year, so he will be a key player underpinning our front row stocks for this time."

The Dragons have also announced the signing of Melbourne Storm prop Lachlan Timm on a one-year deal.

Timm, who is yet to make his NRL debut, has plied his trade with the Intrust Super Cup outfit Sunshine Coast Falcons over the past two seasons.

The Maroochydore Swans Junior averaged 140.1 metres and 24.1 tackles in his 20 games for the Falcons in 2018.

The Dragons Squad for 2019 has two places left on the roster to fill.

“Like numerous Clubs, we are still in the market, we have two places left in our roster,” said Millward. “We are looking for an outside back and we will continue to monitor the market.”

“For the second spot we are prepared to wait and see what circumstances arise during the season.”

The Dragons have completed their 2019 development players squad following the re-signing of Jersey Flegg utility Hayden Lomax.

Lomax has played 35 Under-20 games to date and joins Steven Masters, Jackson Ford, Joe Lovodua, Eddie Blacker and Jason Saab as the Dragons 2019 development players.

says it all really about this club. no idea.

Allgood?- no all bad-a reward for mediocrity- the Storm, who have been losing good forwards to retirement and transfer in recent years had Timm for one year after an ISP stint in Queensland and decided to let him go- could be another Josh Kerr?

Allgood is a waste of a posituon in the top 30. Shoyld have been only offered a part time contract and play ISP only.

The young prop is an interesting signing. With both him and Blacker i guess they are looking more long term (even though Timms is obly signed for 1 yr, my guess he will replace Kerr once his contract expires and Graham if he decides to hang them up).

Meanwhile, over at the Premiers, they're lining up a move for Luke Brooks.

We have become one of those clubs.
We have been become an also ran.
Embarrassing and downright stinks

Anyone of here who thought our club was ever chasing anything other than a TOP 10 finish now hopefully understand how pathetic we have become.

The board, Doust and Mary need to pisssssssssss offfffffffffffffff

All of those who say Millward is doing a great job should take a look at these pathetic signings and hang their heads in shame. We need a first grade fullback and a first grade prop and yet we are buying ISP grade props.

We need to get rid of the loses who are sucking up cap space and buy some quality to give us a chance of winning a comp.

You are a bit harsh with this criticism before looking at the bigiger picture It is called depth through ISP and you need it and all only 1 year deals. You can see what their planning with a bigger overhaul in 2020.
ATM cant have 6 NRL standard props on your books as it cost you a bomb for some to play ISP anyway. We have 4 already which is enough cost. Lawrie, Sims, Vaughan & Graham, they get more props for next year and just maybe poss..these young fringe props like Timms, Kerr, big islander guy from ISP - forget is name will also blossom possum, so for me it is astute longer term planning and not over spending. I think the pack is not our problem, we need and hope will buy another good quality back or 2, just dont know who yet

Timm > Kerr MK 2
Bellamy/ Storm don’t lose too many good ones. You’d think if he was any good, after letting McLean go they’d keep anyone they thought would step up to replace him.

Well , that was predictable ! Nobody on this forum knows exactly where all our cap has been allocated and what limits we have. The real culprit here is the boards inability to secure 3rd party deals.

Also managing the cap isnt as easy as ABC either. Many anomolies have to be factored in like back-ended contracts and SOO payments as well has holding a reserve amount for upgrading contract amounts (which is seperate to upgrading a term of a contract).

Also, it isn't just Millward involved in this process. The coaches all have an input into what position they want to fill, upgrade or change.

For example: coach needs an additional prop. Millward says we have only 200k to spend. You dont go out hunting the likes of Taupou for 200k. The recruiting team would go and find x # of candidates that fit that amount. The coach would say yeah or nay and select the one he likes. Recruitement then has to sign them up. And you're 100% correct our poor TPA involvement means we cant get Taupou for 200k + 500k TPA (like the Roosters or Storm).

Thats it in a nutshell. Sometimes i think we are damn lucky to have the players we do have given our woeful TPA involvements.

Sorry to day I can't agree with you. I believe it would be better to move Frizell to prop and then use Lawrie and a new first grade prop as the next peg down on the depth ladder followed by Kerr and a promising young prop. Latimore and Allgood are a waste of a squad position and salary cap:

Vaughan
Graham
Frizell
K Sims

Lawrie
New prop
Kerr
Young prop

If Kerr was up to scratch no new prop would be required.
