Well, I have seen nothing in the pre-season that is an improvement on the form of season 2022. I'd say we urgently need to:

1. Find a reliable fullback. Sloan still needs at least 6 months in reserve grade.
2. Identify a good five-eighth to replace Amone. Maybe someone from our junior ranks.
3. Move Sullivan to halfback
4. Move Hunt to hooker
5. We need a pair of hard-nosed props that can create a platform. +
6. I'm sorry to say that the recruits from the Tigers are not up to scratch; they are reverse graders at best.
7. BBM and Su'A are my preference at second row.
8. I prefer De Belin at lock

On the plus side, I don't see anyone from the Dragons camp going into this game with a complacent attitude.
Johnno.... l take it you are referring to the round one game... we may be leading the comp early stages of Thu week... will be hard to ground the team after a phenomenal (and 'potential') first round win...
But seriously... we are hopefully outside and pushing for Top 8 at best and heaven help us but genuine contenders for a spoon if perform any less than well (oh dear - did l just say that !!!)

gee points 4 and 6 are a bit tough on Liddle (I thought he was one shining light).

It was mentioned elsewhere in this post but BBM needs more lateral movement to be an Edge.

Bud is a good player... but not a saviour unfortunately. Leave him at 6 and see if we progress.

I believe we have bigger problems then Slone at one. Lets get a 'team' defending in front of him an then worry about how he goes (that is providing that he is not an 'issue' at training and his head is in the right space).

By hard nose props l am more than happy with Blocker (l know some will argue - your all entitled to a view). But l think we need a couple of forwards who have an consistent offload (and non off load if the situation requires)... someone you can trust to run off his shoulder without getting smashed for nought

JDB at lock is probably a given - but he must be thinking run hard first - link second. I have seen him focus on the later and it just costs us a forward.

Two words which will define another crap or a successful season.

LINE SPEED.

Every player especially the forwards are too slow in the defensive line speed.
2010 Bennett had them sprinting back and forward at EVERY play the ball for 80 mins.

LINE SPEED improves and the rest will fall in place naturally.
Storm's 21yr old Loiero was doing just that to Warriors, causing Johnson & others to loose possession in trying to rush the pass.
But thats Bellamy giving a young forward ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys do you reckon BMM gets a solid role starting second row or if not a solid mins role off the bench? Just asking as I play NRL Fantasy and I’m keen on BMM as he’s base price and if having a solid role could make good cash. I thought he had a good game in the Charity Shield as well.

If he starts he'll make decent cash. I'm sure hook was impressed and may likely start him on the edge if bird is at lock and jdb prop, then you'd get value out of him. Otherwise I would wait and see where he plays and bring him in before his price rises in rd 4.

He plays for Dragons now so expect a firey character like him to spend 3/4 of the season suspended.

Am I the only one who thinks Sullivan should start and Mbye to bench?

I really think by selecting Mbye at 6 Hook is sending a message of safe vanilla football takes precedence over a more dynamic and less predictable halves combination. If nothing else, we need to back the likes of a fit Sul to the hilt and hope he finds his groove. What else has this club got to lose. Same goes for Sloan. We aren't going to make a mark on this comp playing safe footy.

I laid the boot in at the time of the Mbye signing. I knew he would go from utility to first picked in no time due to our coach's preferences. He is a fantastic versatile option for our team - steady at 1, 6 and 9 - but I don't think Hook can help himself just like with Snorey Borman before him.

It's Sul's time now. Put some faith in him.

I think Sullivan is going to be great. As such back him, develop him and give him every chance this year. If he screws up a game, use it as a development, a learning experience. As a fan that would excite me more than the difference between 10th and 14th spot on the ladder.

If his performances are continually bad, and you see enough to question his long term game and potential, only then do you revert him to a reserve with the aim to getting rid of him, let him know he is free to explore other options, but only after a long term focus and test. Personally I think he will shine, and we will get something from 2023.

same approach for Sloan.

I don’t know why you think anyone wants to start with Mbye at 6? It’s time to back Bud, Mbye to 14 as cover for Liddle firstly, backs secondly.

That's what happened in the charity shield. Bud should have started so it says a lot about Hook's intentions.
