Official - Manly have been told by ASADA that no players, past or present, have ever tested positive for performance enhancing drugs

So what we are being looked at for, who knows

of course no player has tested positive - its not like ASADA is going to come out and say x player(s) has tested positive but we decided to keep it a secret till now

Remember Lance Armstrong never tested positive either. I'm assuming they have other forms of evidence that players have been involved in doping. If it was a straight-up matter of positive samples it would be more straightforward.

I guess you can probably make the assertion that if they haven't caught anyone - they haven't been doing their job.

The gist of it seems to be, that they are investigating clubs for supplements etc, which weren't actually illegal at the times

This is an extremely strange story !!

The whole thing seems to be based on Steve Dank, a heap of hearsay, rumour, supposition and very, very few facts at all. They came out with guns blazing, shouting from the rooftops, that every sporting code in the country was corrupted by drugs ("suppliments" ?). Match fixing was rife (there seems to be suspicion around one game), and all the bad eggs would be rounded up and summarily dealt with.

I don't know, but I think I'd be feeling just a wee bit silly about now.

Piss, or get off the pot.

Pot? Better test them for cannabis.

Exactly.

I'd be confident still (unfortunately) where there's smoke, there's fire. To me, some fairly senior politicians are putting their loins on the line to have gone to the media in the fashion they did if all that was going to be revealed was one reserve grader. Of course clubs are going to happily trot out the line they're clean, thats a captain obvious.

Joey never tested positive either.

yeah, how the f**k is that possible? self confesses that hes been a recreational drug user all his life and everyone just shrugs their shoulders as if `meh... whatever...`...

and no one uses recreational drugs alone....

It was reported in the last couple of day that the average first grade NRL player gets tested twice a year. Joey could've spent the entire off season off his chops and nobody would've noticed.

The sports drug agency has now come out and said "they made the numbers up" due to pressure from the media.

Bugger me - heaps of credibility now....

Hahaha really? Just heard on the radio some clubs or a club were exploring legal avenues should this all prove to be nothing.

This is why I still think there has to be some fire to this smoke, in that, lets assume it comes out to be pretty much nothing, the minister who brought this to the press in the fashion they did can pretty much guarantee their ministerialship is pretty much over. There'd be no coming back form that.

Absolutely disgraceful. Investigate by all means, but to do all this big chest beating without any clear evidence first- and just as you're starting to investigate fully...shameful. It's pretty much chucking them in court while you look into whether there is reason/evidence for them to be in Court. It's appallingly handled, but unsurprising with a Govt dept:lol:
