Massive investigation regarding former Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess. Full of major allegations, all denied by his lawyer.

Allegations include prescription drug abuse, domestic violence, medical malpractice by a treating doctor and cover ups by others, among many more.

Reminder: tread carefully. This thread will be monitored. The reports remain allegations and any implication of guilt or potentially defamatory comments will be removed and further action considered.

Would be handy if someone can paste a copy of the story in the thread. Thanks.

(Also would love to know how long they’ve been sitting on this story. Not to say it isn’t true, but you’ve gotta love the timing)

More “allegedly’s” in this article than you can poke a stick at. Serious allegations, but still.. It’s always been a journo’s hall pass..

Reserving my judgement on Burgess until anything is proven legally or otherwise.

Lots of this article uses lots of unnecessary puffed up gossip, innuendo, and rehashed storylines to try and paint a picture of Burgess.

The things that stick out is the doctor and alleged domestic abuse. That’s serious. The rest is just noise.

Interesting timing (as usual) to release a story like this, and look at the rag it comes from...

So, cutting out all of the fluff, the main allegations are....

- takes cocktail of recreational drugs (pro footballer doing this type of thing whilst out with the lads on mad Monday - jeez, who’d have thought it...)
- Regularly treats his Mrs like dirt
- Has string of women, often found through social media
- Has an ‘episode’ whilst off his tits
- Throws his weight around during said episode
- Club doctor covers it all up

It’s a terrible read, but hardly surprising - and having spent a fair bit of time socially with plenty of players over the years, I’d say are plenty of similar stories across lots of clubs and players.

The difference here is old Sammy boy has pissed off her folks, who’re happy to pull the rug on the club to get at him.

It is not unusual for players to be educated on what substances are ‘safe’ to take from a perspective of how long they stay in your system and what type of tests would be required to find them, and they’re also educated on how to accelerate flushing their system by eating/drinking certain things.

Clubs always have, and always will ‘cover up’ poor behaviours when it comes to their better players - unless for whatever reason they want rid of them.

I think you've nailed it in one.

If anyone think this type of behaviour is new......I have a bridge to sell them.

Sam Burgess' lawyer has denied sensational allegations in Australia of drug use, domestic violence and harassment against the former England rugby union and league star.

A report in The Australian claimed three separate incidents involving Burgess were covered up by Australian rugby league side South Sydney Rabbitohs, who are also accused of using fake identities to hide positive tests for illegal substances.

Burgess' lawyer Mark O'Brien, however, has strongly denied all the allegations against the 31-year-old, who is now a coach at the club.

It is quite obvious that the newspaper sat on this story until this important week for Souths. The timing is very interesting.

The article is very serious on two fronts. The reputation of Sam Burgess could take a huge hit. The second one about the club doctor is the bigger issue here. If that part is proven accurate, a few heads have to roll.
