I need a good laugh, what was your logic in selecting Beckenbauer?
same reason why we picked Pele... didn't really see them play... but for some reason there name just jumped up first when you thought of that country.

you being more informed with german football would probably be better to judge...

like i said... all our opinion of course...

who would you put up there for germany??

if i was judging on the players i have seen.. it would be Oliver Kahn

Don't know, never saw him play. Pretty sure Müller would have to be there. Third most prolific goal scorer of all time, Europe's most prolific goal scorer. Had a league game/goal ratio of about 0.8 and had more than a goal a game ration for West Germany. First German to win the Ballon D'or, aswell, I think.

Maybe Jens Jeremies, aswell.

Germany don't have a clear stand out like Brazil, Portugal or Argentina.

Wynton Rufer is very debatable imo.

Of all the major nations, the easier ones are:

Brazil - Pele (although you'll apparently get a few Brazilians who will put Garrincha there instead).
Argentina - Maradona
Holland - Cruyff (as good as van Basten was...)
Portugal - Eusebio
Spain - di Stefano
Russia - Yashin

Then it becomes abit more difficult:

Italy - Zoff/Baresi/Maldini
France - Fontaine/Platini/Zidane
England - Moore/Charlton/Matthews/Banks/Edwards (had he not died in the Munich air disaster he probably would have been no.1)
Germany - Beckenbauer/Moller

And for the record:

Can anyone forward suggestions re: the best from these countries:
Bhutan
Guam
American Samoa
Barbados
Azerbaijan
Chad
Mongolia
Tahiti
Phillipines
The Maldives
Sierra Leone

Are we in agreement that Alexander Hleb is the best player from Belarus?

how could you debate it??

especially when he was with Werder Bremen...

who else in NZ football comes close??
You might laugh but I'd have Vicelich up there. He's been a class act for many years and has just come out of international retirement for us :D

I actually meant Muller there. But i'll keep Moller there as well simply because Andreas Moller is a Dortmund legend and my favourite FIFA player of all-time. My tactics involved giving the ball to Moller and he would carve through the middle of the field and blast the ball in. Ahh, great times.

Another LU student of the University of Fifa and Football Manager.

FTR, Möller kicked the winning penalty against the soap dodgers in Euro '96 Semi

I restricted it to players that I've seen in my time, so the more recent era:

Brazil - Ronaldo
Argentina - Maradona
Holland - van Basten
Portugal - Rui Costa
Spain - Hierro
Italy - Baggio
France - Platini
England - Gascoigne
Germany - Matthaus
