Early Morning Gym sessions

It's probably been answered in this forum somwhere, apologies in advance.

I've just started going to the gym in the morning's instead of after work to have more time to do summer stuff. First session after 15 minutes of cardio and 2 sets of weights got really dizzy and nauseas near to the point of fainting and vomiting and had to stop. I only had some almonds beforehand so I tried eating cereal the next day and felt bloated and like it was going to come back up.

So my question is - what's the best thing to eat before a workout (bout 30 mins or so prior) to keep up the energy levels and not feel bloated?

Cheers.

I've been training in a fasted state in the morning for years and have never had that problem. Do you make sure to drink at least half a liter of water before kicking off your training?

If water on its own isn't doing it for you, then I recommend an apple or banana, something to boost your glycogen levels, even cloudy apple juice (don't go with OJ it's too acidic).

I have an apple and an energy supplement about 20mins before, and a protein shake straight after. works for me.

Protein shake with water (tastes like shit) and a banana about an hour beforehand always worked for me

Protein shakes with water, taste like dirt lol. Always have them after a climb session. On the plus side, I don't end up feeling like I got hit by a truck the next morning.

Might have been a bit down on hydration too. I thought it was the lack of food. Might try the fruit and more water.

Thanks.

Personally, I use to train on an empty stomach because I just couldn't eat a meal before I trained, as you said "you feel bloated".

Now I just take creatine monohydrate, its proven to help with your "explosive movements", although I may do a completely different routine to you.

Personally I can eat whatever before training...morning or not. But being sensible i'd recommend a sandwich or fruit, and water or fruit juice.

My personal favourite is milk, honey and frozen blueberries all blended before a morning workout. Add some icecubes for extra water sometimes too

Also, try doing your weights 1st up after a light warm up then do your cardio.

I generally have a protein shake as soon as I wake up and then about 100mg of l-carnitine with about 150ml of apple juice before I leave the house. I find that helps. Some mornings are better than others though.

This morning was one of the bad ones.

Try optimum nutrition chocolate - tastes great. Add their orange flavour BCAAs and it is like drinking a jaffa!

I've experienced that before but I was drinking the night before. Had a big breakfast, alot of water, pre-protein etc but towards the end I almost fainted. Never doing that again.

When I forget to screw the lid on the container with my WPI in it, I just buy some musashi P30,Iced Chocolate, it's really good. Mixing carbs with protein after a workout boosts recovery heaps.

I'm not a fan of lifting in the morning but cardio would be alright. I feel better prepared to lift weights after work.
I buy plain wpi and have it with water.

Just started going for a 20-30 mins run in the morning to supplement my afternoon gym sessions (where I've started focusing on weights)..

Enjoying it... Haven't been eating anything until after my run. Feels good to me.

Lifting is better in the afternoons due to your muscles being properly warmed up from moving around all day.

I used to be able to run in the mornings but now I just feel like death. God I feel bad. Sluggish with no energy. I've started cycling though which is better and I make my 45 minute session a hard one with lots of hills and high intensity.

Thanks for all the feedback. I started doing my weights first, cardio last, drinking more water and eating an apple prior and seems to be working. Must have been too dehydrated.
