I actually wonder why we don’t already have a major sporting franchise with a dingo mascot.Adelaide Dingos
Tbf not many clubs have used Australian unique animals weirdly. One of the reasons I lament the loss of the Reds.I actually wonder why we don’t already have a major sporting franchise with a dingo mascot.

The Qld Reds Union team were not named after a kangaroo, they were named after their first ever jersey was red and black hoops, thus they started calling them 'Reds".
The NSW Rugby Union team is called the Waratahs, which is named after native flora. In fact the word waratah comes directly from the Eora aboriginal word 'warada'
Brumbies are not native to Australia, horses were an introduced species. Brumby is an Australian word for wild horses. The US word for these type of horses is Broncos. Also Cowboy = Stockman etc
My post was in reference to Perth reds post about Qld Reds and Brumbies being the only ones he could think of being Australian like team names, neither of which really are.Wests tigers named after large cat species known for vertical black stripes & orange fur
Geez really? Why do you think I said I lamented the loss of the name?Reds were kangaroos dopey

redbacks
Tassie Tigers (kind of)

It’s a uniquely Australian word for a particular animal, ergo it makes the list.Didnt we just read about Brumbies being introduced, or so we have too many ignores on to follow threads, like that grotds absent mindedness
They literally have a red koala in their logoHow qld got their name 'Reds', took a second to google it.
Why is Queensland's Super Rugby team called the Reds?

If you want to add wild horses as Australian then you may as well add Sharks, Dolphins, Eels and even Storm. All have been in and around Australia for thousands of years. Wild horses only since European settlement.
Actually if you are adding wild horses then Lions, Tigers, elephants, seals, etc etc are all here since then as well.
What you are saying is the word "brumby" is uniquely Australian, not the animal itself.
Yes they have a koala there, but it's not their name, Queensland Koalas? No they are the Queensland Reds. And the link I provided from qld union tells how they got that name. They literally have a red koala in their logo
sure if a club is using a uniquely Australian name for any of those animals, but they aren’t.
