How is it a slap in the face? The NZRFU denied making an offer.

bullsh*t. They did, not good PR to be rejected.

And that would make you a liar....

The NZRFU did not approach SBW's manager and make an offer. The story is a beat up by his manager. Of course he stated he wasn't going to switch, bit hard to switch when your new "employer" hasn't even offered you a job.

The NZRFU has a policy that it would welcome any player who wanted to play Rugby. However BEFORE they could be an All Black they would first have to prove themselves in the NPC and Super 12 so the "offer" from the All Blacks can't be true. Considering there is no player in New Zealand getting payed $1 mil a year to play, someone with at least half a brain would have realised that that part wasn't true either. But then of course it makes perfect sense to the children of this board that the NZRFU would offer an unproven 19yr old a million a year when better players by the dozen are taking up big money offers off shore. Hell they cut Lomus contract when he was the biggest name in both codes.... but no its in the paper so it must be true.

Hows the club rugby scene going? When they count the crowd figure do they include the dog with the two men in attendance????

From what I've heard Sonny Bill was offered a $1 million contract with a spot in the All Blacks... If thats true I'd be VERY suprised to see him stay a doggie... Realistically, the dogs are the most disgraced club in the NRL at the moment (it's true) and if you are offered a chance to play with either that, or the most respected, feared and passionately supported international rugby team in the world who would you go for? It's a no brainer!
My guess is it's all bullsh*t, no real kiwi would turn down a big money contract and a guaranteed 13 tests a year with a team like the All Blacks after S12 and NPC... It's got to be rubbish.

haha $1 million, maybe from the ARU but not from the NZRFU. brad thorn started his rugby career at around $30,000.

jonah lomu was only on around half a million.

as for this joke about SBW turning this offer down and blah blah blah.
there was no offer you idiots!!
stop trying to score cheap points against rugby union.
there is no way the NZRFU would have offerd SBW a contract to play in the AB's.
ive stated it once before and ill state it again....
the NZRFU are not like the ARU, we dont have our national team jumper included in our contract's.
you have to earn the All Blacks jearsey.
as if the NZRFU would hand a million bucks to a 19 year old that has never played the game before.
honestly, some people in here are idiots.

If you want to compare crowd figures you would have to dig up the Canberra Vikings club rugby crowd figures, plus the fact that its 5 home games vs 12, provincial tournament vs club tournament...

how about we just face facts. the Brumbies and the Raiders are Canberra's only fully professional union/league sides. so why not compare them as organisations?

You turned this into a Raiders-Brumbies thing. The facts are the Brumbies have half as many home games to go and watch. They play in the (relatively) warmer months and have had a period of sustained excellence with finals and premierships. So I am not surprised they have been getting really good crowds.

Last year the Raiders had a good home average (14k) and three near-or-over 20k crowds. Thats not bad. This year the form dropped and the crowd number did too. Obviously I'd like to see the crowds increase but Canberrans are a fickle bunch and want to go watch a winning team.

Still Brumbies v Raiders is apples and oranges stuff.

As for my original 'two men and a dog' joke - the Raiders' 2004 avg still shits all over club rugby crowds by a factor of 50-100!

how about we just take the crowd averages then? i have no idea whos got the better average to be honest, im neither a raiders or a brumbies fan. comparing the raiders and the brumbies maybe like comparing 'apples and oranges' but to compare the vikings and raiders is like comparing apple the computer company to an actuall apple'. they may have the same name but they mean two diffrent things. you cant just compare them because there both clubs. you have to realise that rugby and league have diffrent structures. Clubs in Rugby League are fully proffesionall. where in Rugby Union there Amatuer. why not just compare them as organisations?

Average? Its probably 10k for the Raiders this season and 20k for the Brumbies.

So why not go on crowd total? Double the number of games for the Raiders = same aggregate.

You can make statistics talk as much as you want, its how you express them.

The NZRFU sigining and untried league player for 1 million bucks with a guarenteed All Black jersey!!!!!! Thats the funniest thing I have ever read!!

Peter Sterling has more chance of growing hair than the NZRFU offering Sonny Bill Bill a contract like that.

More like $30,000, a pat on the back and a stint in the NPC for a couple of years....

Tell me the name of an All Black forward in the last 100 years that had as much ability as Sonny Bill???I realise it`s a different game, particularly in the forwards, but you can`t tell me the All Blacks wouldn`t love to get their hands on Sonny Bill.He is going to be an "icon",the type of player that will be idolised by young aspiring footballers and for that reason he will attract thousand of kids to want to play what ever code Sonny Bill ends up playing.Remember that Brad Thorne walked into the All Black side and he never had half the ability of Sonny Bill.

SBW wont be playing in the forwards if he switched hes too small to be in the tight five and not to mention it would be a waste of his ball skills to be there and he doesnt have the breakdown skills to be a loose fwd. he would be a centre most probably. and believe me if he were to come to union he would be bloody lucky to be ranked amongst our top 10 centres ATM. you see if you want to be a AB you have to have more then talent. as for Brad Thorn, i have a feeling he would be a better union player then SBW. hes just more suited to a rugged style of game. SBW would be a waste in the forwards and he would have to bide his time in our backs.
