Does anyone see any of the old players at the games? Other than last week...

I have had Bob O'Reilly Pointed out to me on more than one occasion. Apparently loves to come to games. Steve Ella as well apprently loves to get out to the games. Both don't want to publicise it though.

Peter Wynn and Stan Jurd are regulars while Mark Laurie and Mick Cronin turn up when they can I've even seen the great Ron Massey at a game this year.

despite what alot of people think about our legends not going to games it actually happens regularly however I don't think the club does enough to recognise them during home games ala "ring of legends" [Canterbury] and giant banners of past legends [Souths].

We have a proud history and we should continue to aknowledge and embrace it.

Some sentiments from the players on what they thought on what the club did:

BEN SMITH COLUMN

22 August 2007

It has been a big week since our game against Melbourne last Friday night with lots of things happening – and we are getting for a game against the Dragons at the end of it all.

We were disappointed with the result against Melbourne there is no doubt about that – but we were not disappointed with our effort or our enthusiasm, and it was a 1000% improvement on the week before, which it need to be. I’m not so sure Melbourne would be looking forward to playing against us again this season, and we certainly want another crack at them!!!

Before the match, the Club made a presentation to Peter Sterling and Tony Chalmers – both former players now working for Channel 9. This year, the Club has given every player a number in line with when they made their debut and are presenting them with a tie and key ring with their number on it. It was great to have those guys in the sheds with us and you could see by their faces what an emotional moment it was. Sterlo spoke about the pride of pulling on the jersey and everywhere he goes he can say “I played for Parramatta”. The current first grade players were presented theirs on Wednesday of this week and I have to say it was as exciting for me as it was them. I don’t know if I will ever wear my tie, but I can tell you that I am number 674, and that is something that can never be taken away from me. All the boys were comparing numbers etc and checking out the list and we are all very thankful to the Club for doing this.

Anyway, on to the Dragons on Monday it will be hard game for us as we know what is at stake. Win our next two games of the season and we will more than likely finish in the top 4 which means a home final – but we need to keep positive, keep being enthusiastic and keep the pressure on. The Dragons may not be able to make the finals but they are a proud club and love playing at home.

From Hindy's blog:

Last night all the players were presented with medallions and ties with their number on them (by number I mean the number player they were to reach first grade). Number one was the 1947 captain and the last was Weller Hauraki. My number is 595 which means there were plenty before me.

MITS - did you get that list up?

Amongst all these average to brilliant footballer's, it's easy to remember the 80's and late 70's as our most successfull teams no arguments's, but one player that arrived in 1990 and killed himself every week for us when we were sh*t house, is 483 look him up and tell us what u think.
