Seriously, the tabloids would go bust if the Eels were consistently making the 8 & had no coach/boardroom issues. More speculation just to sell papers here. From an outsider looking in, I applaud this current administration on how this is being handled. They have a list of interested candidates which are being interviewed & reviewed. This is the way a professional organisation makes a key appointment. No back room deals or agendas (so it seems). Sounds good so far.

As far as which coach goes, I still rate Ando but he is his own man. If there is any truth to this Smith as Head of Football Operations rumour, then I cannot see Anderson being interested - nor could I see it working. JT is still an unknown quantity for mine. I love his passion & commitment but this is a big mess to fix. The new coach will need to be someone strong-willed & thick skinned. Someone who can not only start to rebuild but get some obvious improvement from the NRL side in the 2014 season to hold off the media vulchers.

We really are a mess currently. Knowing this could be the death knell of their career should they fail (or be perceived to have failed by the usual suspects), what coach would really want to put his hand up for this gig? Glad I am not the one having to make this decision.

Go the Eels

Are you serious?

He got punched out on the piss with them at mad Monday (by one of them).

Ah right. Good point - so if someone wears a fairy dress on Mad Monday it's a clear sign he's gay?

As Gronk said - we have no idea how long he was there for. And there's certainly nothing inappropriate about a coach having a drink with his players. (Fa'alogo also had his contract terminated).

What we do have evidence of is the way that the Bunnies played under Taylor, and the 'in season' professionalism that the club held during his tenure. Ok - so there have been a couple of off-field incidents which just might indicate JT should never pick up an alcoholic beverage of any kind... but you can't fault his in season work.

JT is not my preference but using something 3+ seasons ago against him that he no doubts regrets and probably has learnt from is silly. he clearly deserves another chance at the top level

Agree. I too am not entirely sure that he's the best candidate. However when the Roosters players repeatedly attribute their shape and attacking fluency to JT, it's hard to ignore.

tactically i think he's the best candidate. my reasons against him are relative to our board and other key influencers

My reservations are about his ability to unite the playing group and make them play for each other, the jersey and the fans at a high level for the entire game. Great coaches (you only need to look at the top 5/6 teams this year) can make their players play at 80% of their ability for most of the year. We can't afford to employ a coach can't get the best out of the squad. It didn't take the players long to work out that Kearney had NFI. We can't afford to find ourselves in that position again.

At that point he was still only a year or two out of playing.
I think now that he is that much older than the players there will be less likely hood of him trying to be one of the boys.

Who JT? Didn't he retire at the end of 2001? He got punched in 2009 think? That's hardly a year or 2 after he finished

Retired in 2001. Was 2009 when it happened.

Sure he may be much older. If he gets the job lets hope so.

My opinion is not solely based on that incident in particular but I feel a coach needs to distance himself from the playing group in instances like that.

in fairness to jt i am pretty sure the guy that hit him is the same peanut belted anasta for no acceptable reason.

the dude may have a screw or 10 loose.

jt has had his moments of stupidity when he was younger but i think has settled right down. it isn't like he was ever in a fittler moment since he retired from playing.

This was reported on Triple M Brisbane this morning, I'd say it has more to do with Cartwright's future at the Titans than him being a FG coach at the Eels. I could see him being an assistant though

Seems odd. He signed a long term extension until 2016. Has new CEO Graham Annesley proposed to dump him that quick ?

Doubtful.

If anyone has read the Jack Gibson book, then he would be criticised for his fighting etc and some on here wold not accept big standover Jack as a coach

Give JT a break, he never wanted to leave the Eels and has a good pedigree for an NRL coach, knows systems and can coach. We don't want to sound like the nuffies in the media who talk about "poisoned chalice" etc, we need to get behind the club and hope a young coach is appointed.

The club needs fresh momentum and ideas after what we have had since BS left
