Meh - our backs can already leap and take bombs so I'm not sure what they'd get out of it except for publicity... After all, in the AFL they don't have to worry about how cleanly they catch the ball after jumping for it which surely creates a significant difference in the techniques required.

More practice never hurt anyone.

Besides - they were training their kicking, too - we could use their long kicking games to get us out of trouble.

But how much jumping and catching practice do our boys really do? Or do we just purely rely on their natural skill.

I have no doubt that that is one skill that the AFL lads could give us a few pointers in. I'm sure there is more to it than what you think.

There probably is.

How many on-contract players are getting free travel and accommodation interstate?

I didn't say there wasn't "more to it"... What I did say was I thought the techniques required in each game would be quite different and as a result I'm not entirely sure what they'd be able to learn from the AFLers... After all, as it was pointed out in the article they have completely different body shapes. What works for a tall lanky fellow might not work for Jazz.

Also - there are completely different rules around contact between players contesting the ball. There are also different aims behind contesting the ball in the air - we don't want a back learning a leaping technique that lends itself to "batting" the ball away when contesting a bomb on the line.

So, you believe it's a publicity stunt?
Would Parra waste money like that?

No not a publicity stunt.

I was cynically suggesting it was a way of keeping our two young players, who every club in the world would like on their books, happy, at or around the time their contracts were being negotiated, by providing them with a trip, accommodation, and a chance to train with another elite organization.

I was only half serious.

Then why did we send them to Melbourne.

FFS, that would drive them away.

Should have sent them to Spain or Italy to train with Barcalona or AC Milan.

Also, your above statement implies that we are an elite organisation.......:sarcasm:
