Better defence this time around from the Eels, particularly from Moeroa who races up to cut down a sweeping play.

An excellent kick from the Dogs put Goodall under pressure in his ingoals. He beats the first three defenders from deep inside to get back into the field of play but is just forced into touch for a Canterbury scrum.

The Dogs attack our right early on before coming back to our left. They look for another dummy half barge over but not only do the Eels repel it, they force an error from the runner. Much better intensity from Parra there!

Parra scrum 10m out from their goal line.

There are a few drops of rain coming down now...

A neat offload form Newbigging to Bush gets Parra to halfway and Daoud finishes the set off with a deft touch finder that is marked 10m out from the Dogs' goal line.

The Eels defend well for the first two tackles but a nice offload gets the Dogs out of their end.

They run the ball down our right edge on the last and after some thought they roll the ball into our ingoals.

Makelim has the ball covered for all money but a wicked bounce at the last moment means he can only bat the ball sideways where he is promptly beaten to it by a Canterbury chaser (ex-Eel, Robbie Kamoto). That was pretty unlucky for Makelim there.

The conversion is unsuccessful.

The Dogs trail Parra 20-28

Great kickoff from Davis! A towering monster of a thing, similar to those of Pat Richards. The Dogs have no clue how to take it and it bounces dead for a line drop out.

Moeroa heads in field before offloading to Mauala and then taking another charge the next play. The Eels are building nicely but an unforced error from Markus takes the pressure of the Dogs. The Eels compound matters by then conceding a penalty in the clean up of the ball.

Canterbury focus their attack on our right edge but are not only stopped but have the ball forced loose. Our right edge has looked pretty fragile but that was a pretty good effort.

Bush relieves the tiring forwards with a nice dart before Daoud fires the ball into touch 10m out from the Dogs' goal line.

Good set.

Big chance for the Eels now as the Dogs drop the ball 30m out from their line. Good involvement from Moeroa in that set of defence.

Clay finds Newbigging from the scrum win who offloads back to his halfback. Daoud brings play down the left and tries to put Moeoa through a gap but the pass is ruled forwards and the Dogs get the ball back.

Canterbury scrum 10m from their goal line.

Lavaka goes well to get hand to a ball to kill an overlap from deep in the Dogs' half. With the fresh set the home team spin the ball to their right but with the Eels closing in they make another unforced error.

Parra scrum 20m out from the Dog's line.

Kamikamica is back on and takes the opening hit up. Makelim swoops on to the right on the next play but can't find any space so takes the tackle. The Eels come back to the left but are pulled down to bring up the last.

Markus is at first receiver on the last and shovels the ball to Clay who kicks who himself and finds a line drop out.

Not much doing for the Eels early in this set before Markus brings up the last after cleaning up a poor pass.

Clay chips for Lavaka down the right but a good block and jump from the Dogs secures the ball.

Desperate times for the Dogs as they struggle for metres and look for the miracle offloads. They somehow stick but the Eels roll with it and bring the ball down eventually.

The Dogs look for a bomb on the last but their half has kicked it into their own player for a turnover.

Markus nearly slides though before Daoud does the same - pulled down 3m short.

Clay gets the ball in front of the posts and probably miscalls the play as the rolls the ball in towards the goal line where it is easily taken by the Canterbury #7.

The Dogs run it on the last and their dummy half makes a half break where he is nearly tackled three times but no one keeps a hand on him. He eventually links up with support on his right to perhaps create something but as Makelim pushes up they try to chip over him and the ball goes out on the full.

Penalty for the Dogs now as Davis mistimes his run and hits the defender in the air as he takes the ball.

Dogs find touch 25m out from their line and continue to roll the dice on risky offloads, to continuing success.

The second phase play takes them to the Eels' line on the last and they bomb Goodall who can't get a clean take at the ball. Parra are able to bat it dead and come back to the posts for a line drop out.

3min to go from the drop out as Davis sends it 50m on the fly.

The Dogs come down our right once again, looking to breach that eight point lead but a good tackle from Oloapu means that the offload from his opposite is well off the mark and heads into touch.

Kamikamica takes the hit up form the scrum and is followed by Moeroa who slips a great offload to Makelim to pinch 20m.

The Eels look for Davis on the left but he is taken well in a tackle.

Coming back in field, Tui Kamikamica steps through the line and into open space. His support is shielded by a defender so he steps the fullback and finds Daoud will a lovely ball. Daoud turns the ball back to his right but Muna (?) loses it with the line begging and the Dogs go on the counter attack.

The Parra line is in disarray due to the turnover and the Dogs surge downfield via some second phase play that ultimately sees Robbie Kamoto fly into open space and score under the posts.

The conversion is successful but the full-time siren rings out.

The effort was pretty good today, even if our execution let us down at key times. The Dogs had great success in raiding our raw right-edge but our forwards did enough to help close out the game.

I liked the efforts of Moeroa, Tepu-Smith and Kamikamica, who were relentless today. Clay and Bush did some nice things as well, although Zach let himself down several times with some poor bombs.

Another win for the 20s when we are far from full strength, so well done.

Fabian Goodall and Ryan Matterson are named for the 20s as Wenty have the bye in the NSW Cup this week. Tyrell Fuimaono is expected to back up from the Under 18s Origin game for his second NYC cap.

Tui Kamikamica retains his place on the bench after a strong showing against the Dogs.

Kelepi Tanginoa isn't named in either grade this week. I'm not sure if he picked up an injury on Saturday or if he is a chance at a late call up in the NRL.
