Good defence from Parra as they not only read the sweeping play down their right edge but force the ball carrier into touch.

Neither team looks to pack the scrum as the half time siren rings out.

Half Time

Parra lead Melbourne 12-4

I find watching u20s frustrating - alot of bad decisions, poor defense, etc - stuff you take for granted at NRL level that just isn't at the same standard with the kids (which is fair enough, they're young)

Parra are miles away from their best but have worked themselves into the lead after a terrible start.

We have squandered plenty of chances but our left-edge came to life in the second quarter as Matterson, Moeroa and Davis all caused the Storm headaches.

Clay is having an ordinary game on the other edge, either taking the wrong option or executing the right option poorly. He has played much better than that this year so hopefully he can lift in the second half.

matterson and meoroa (sp?) are definite desitined for NRL

davis - very good NYC player, but you don't see too many bean poles in NRL - his legs are just very long

They are the only 3 atm that look like they could make the grade in the future IMO.

Don't forget that Goodall and Aloiai are missing from this team. Goodall is almost a certainty for first grade duties and is many times over the player that Li is while Aloiai has been damn good for us in 2014.

Shame Goodall was ruled out as I would have liked to see him with the other 3. Li has been very disappointing running into touch on two occasions both on first tackle. That is wing play 101

Li seems to think that he is quicker than he actually is. I don't mind a winger that backs himself but he is roped in on nearly every half break he has.

They need to rethink the National U20s concept imo. A lot of these kids would benefit playing in a National version of the NSW cup (or what used to be Reserve Grade), where once above 18yo they could mix with some older and fully physically developed players, with a range of experience levels (ex first graders, backup depth players, late starters etc).

The NYC "stars" (well, who haven't made it straight to NRL when 18yo anyway) will still stand out in a national Reserve Grade, and it will prepare them better for making the jump to first grade. And it would likely provide better quality games to watch.

Also keep in mind Tanginoa and Pauli Pauli could be playing and look certain to make grade. And Jnr Paulo just come up this year.
I think that would be a great achievement to have Tanginoa-Pauli Pauli-Matterson-Tepai-Goodal all make grade from same team. That's if Davis and Kaysa don't make it.

Than there is falou Lussick and ZDC who are 50-50 prospects.

Agree your next best 17 at the club should be reserve grade. If your 19 and better than the guy at Wenty you should be there. Tepai-Kelepi-Matterson should all be in the next 17 behind first grade

Davis nearly forces an error as Munster just cleans up a poor initial attempt at a catch.

The Storm recover to drive the ball out to halfway on the last but they are met with some good tackles - Moeroa at the fore yet again.

Li fields the ball from the kick. Davis follows his carry up with one of his own and is rocked in a heavy hit.

Parra work the ball to the right and then back to centrefield as Raelli gets the ball just short of halfway on the last.

Matterson finds space between the winger and fullback with his kick but some poor defensive work undoes the good of the kick.

Melbourne have some sloppy second phase ball and Parra scramble easily to bring up the last.

The Storm send up a bomb on the last but lose it forwards in the contest.

Great runs from Davis and Newbigging take Parra miles downfield!

Clay sends a terrible ball to Matterson who decides to grubber early in the set. Bad call and play from both halves there as Munsters comes up with the ball.

Li is well positioned for the Melbourne kick. They were shooting for a 40/20 but the Eels were all over it.

How wasn't that a penalty!?!?!

Blatant headlock on Tepu-Smith as he tried to play the ball!

Parra don't need the help from the ref anyway...

Moeroa burts through another gap courtesy of Matterson. He has Makelim on his left but correctly decides to hold the ball.

Matterson calls for the ball down the left edge shortside on the last and finds Davis with no one in front of him to put his centre over!

The conversion is unsuccessful

Parra extend their lead over Melbourne to 16-4

47min gone.
