Linebreak for the Knights now from the kickoff from some sloppy defence from Pauli. Parra catch a break though from a poor play-the-ball and get possession 15m into Newcastle's half.

The ball comes up to Davis from the scrum win who beats the initial contact to steal 15m. The Eels don't show any patience again. The backline movement was nice but Goodall backs himself against a stacked defensive line.

Parra somehow come away with a goal line drop out for a strip. Newcastle challenge the call but initial replays suggest the refs got it right.

Another short goal line drop out on account of the wind. Pauli winds up and makes a good carry with a quick play-the-ball that Kaysa looks to capitalise on by darting from dummy half! Kaysa goes oh-so-close to scoring but is held up in a great tackle by young Cogger.

Matterson gets the ball from the restart of play and brings the ball down the left, throwing the dummy to Goodall before stepping off his left and pushing through Mamo's attempted tackle to score!

Good job by the young Eels to not let the earlier call and try get to them.

The conversion is unsuccessful.

Parra trail the Knights 10-12

Is that two errors and sloppy in defence from pauli in the first 20min? Should be doing better at this level.

Good carry from Li, who was unlucky not to draw a penalty for rubbish in the ruck but Goodall follows im up with a strong run of his own and then gets the penalty!

Parra on the attack now.

Pauli is up first and is followed by Alex Twal. Tanginoa takes a shot but shrugs out of it. Six again for the Eels after an attempted strip.

ADC and Folau run the ball down the right but can't breach the line before Clay finds himself with the ball again and panics - offloading the ball to no one and it is pounced upon by the Knights!

There is concern over Tanginoa's fitness after the shot he wore. He is off.

Ntohing fancy from the Knights as they work the ball out of their half.

Davis and Lavaka are on hand to clean the kick up and work the ball back as the Eels look to complete a basic set of their own.

Matterson pulls up on the last and sends up a towering bomb -good kick finally! - that drops 2m short of the try line. Donovan (sp) takes a good catch for the home team but is quickly pulled down. ZDC looks to be struggling down the right but Matterson is working his way into the game.

Another simple set for Parra, started by a good charge from Li. Matterson comes into the middle and slices through! Terrific work from the half. He offloads to Muna who steams downfield and is just pulled down!

Acres of space for the Eels down the right and Davis loops to that edge and throws the money ball to Fuimaono who dives over!

Controversy now as Tyrell has copped knees in the ribs in the act of scoring! The evidence is clear, Mamo has lead with the knees in the act of a try being scored but somehow there is no call on it. Mind boggling stuff.

Fuimaono was dusty from the hit so hopefully he is alright.

The conversion is successful.

Para hit the lead for the first time 16-12

35min gone.

Twal is called upon for the opening hit up and Pauli is right there after him.

Leva Li has another good run and an offload as Parra rumble up over halfway.

Sweeping movement to the right now that ends with Fuimaono taking a tackle. Twal is pulled down mid feild to bring up the last as Matterson swings down the left and jabs a kick in behind.

The kick picks up a deflection and as Newcastle look to dive on it there is a small knock on!

The Eels have a great chance to establish a good lead here but blow it from the scrum win with a poor pass from Fuimaono.

Penalty for Newcastle now as Pauli is pinged for a late hit on Cogger. Pretty marginal call there on replay and another 50/50 for the home team.

Newcastle with a full set in Parra's red zone.

And it proves to be too much for Parra as Folau is beaten by a short ball from dummy half. Folau had the shot on #11 but he rolled through the attempted tackle and scores out wide.

More points after a contentious call...although Parra's defence was poor in this case.

The conversion is unsuccessful.

Half Time

The game is locked up again at 16-all

Seriously Forty20 what do they see in Folau? I reckon he is easily our most overrated junior and if he wasn't Israel's brother he would have been let go years ago. He has awful defence and has no vision in attack.

I am fairly surprised that both teams have played suck reckless attacking football given the conditions but it IS the Holden Cup so it really shouldn't shock me.

Given how they have thrown the ball around both teams have made plenty of errors but for mine, Parra look to be the better side - although perhaps lacking patience at times.

Newcastle scored one opportunistic long rage try through Jake Mamo before their #11 was the beneficiary of two tries on the back of the absolutely terrible penalty call and another dubious one.

The Eels will be running into the strong wind in the second half and will need to improve their fifth tackle kicking option lest they be punished by the Knights.

I agree 100% with this. I watched him last week against Manly, his defence is non existent and offers nothing in attack.

I feel like Folau might look better if he played down Matterson's edge (disregarding preferred edges) as Ryan feeds cleaner ball to his outside men whereas ZDC can get bogged down at times.

I would have Lavaka and Li ahead of him at this stage (and obviously Davis and Goodall) but he is still worth a spot at Wenty.

I also want to rap Kaysa Pritchard who has truly led the way in defence. He has pulled off about four absolute bone rattlers and has otherwise been busy around the park.

With he and Isaac De Gois deputising Peats next year we have plenty of depth and quality in the hooking role.

You reckon Dargan will play NYC next year or is it too early?

I would not be surprised Avenger. He might play through the SG Ball season before making the jump.

That said there are a quite a few other contenders including Vidal, French, Izzard, Seve and some others.
