Oh dear! Parra gamble on the kick off sailing long but instead of some one standing on the line and taking the ball they let it sail and it drops just in goals!

Line drop out.

Shallow kick and from the second tackle the Knights pick up a penalty.

The home team come down Parra's right edge but can't bust them open on this attempt. They centre the ball before spinning it to the right where the have a considerable overlap. The Parra players scream for a forward pass but the ball looks alright to me and the Knights cross in the corner.

Another try after a big misplay from the Eels (kickoff error).

The conversion is unsuccessful.

30 points all here!

Silly stuff from Twal I think, Parra were defending well before he held down in the tackle and gave away a soft penalty.

Newcastle on the attack again...

Better defence from the Eels but the Knights still force a line drop out. Replays show that the refs somehow missed an obvious shoulder charge from the Eels. What are they doing?

A HIGH drop out and Tui Kamikamica comes down with it! Massive play from Tui and Davis there.

Metres are hard to come by for Parra and Matterson has to hoof it downfield under considerable pressure. Not a bad kick all things considering.

Well that was an obvious shepherd there based on the Sandow decision but the refs let Mamo run behind two players for no penatly there.

Parra hold out until the last but somehow they score after their winger grubbers back infield as they half Cogger picks it up. The ref is happy that he is onside and the Knights are back in front.

Replays suggest he IS offside for mine.

Oh dear, I don't know about that one....He looked comfortably offside from the second look there.

Contentious decision there and one that will likely cost the Eels the win.

The conversion is unsuccessful

Newcastle are in front 34-30

And now Parra get the ball back from the kick off again!

Another screwy, towering kick as Goodall comes down with it and has it stripped after the tackle has been completed.

Some fortune after plenty of misfortune mind you as replays suggest that Fabian knocked it on.

Time is off as young Cogger is down with a leg injury. Doesn't look good for the talent Australian Schoolboys half.

Gee the refs have had a terrible day. As filthy as I am at some of the calls against Parra, Newcastle fans would feel aggrieved as well.

Goodall surges on to the tap restart. Pauli is used after him.

Matterson and ZDC bring th e ball infield before Tanginoa takes the short ball. Nice interchange between Davis and Matterson down teh right but Newcastle mark up well.

Parra go back to the left and bring up the last. Parra run it down the left but a looping ball from Pauli gives the Knights the time they need to scramble and kill the ball!

Unbelievable. Pauli is now penalised for a shoulder charge with 3min on the clock.

There is a Parra player on the ground as time is blown off.

I must say that Pauli and Tanginoa have been massively dissapointing with their decision making in defence.

Their insistence on using the shoulder charge has cost Parra dearly today.

And Kelepi is the player that is down.

Tanginoa is back up. Not sure if he was fishing for a penalty on review there. Odd stuff.

Time is running out now and Parra need something big to take the game.

Simple stuff as the Knights run one out. Solid metres but nothing too threatening.

They begin to build to a left edge movement but Parra cover well. Last tackle and Mamo rolls the ball towards the in goals as Davis is pulled down a metre out.

Poor set for four tackles before some second phase play creates some hope. Parra surge down the left but Goodall loses the ball trying to push an offload! That looks like the game.

Time off as Parra pack for the Newcastle scrum. 50 seconds on the clock or there abouts.

And somehow Newcastle get the scrum penalty despite their front row not packing in?
What has happened there?

Newcastle burst through the defensive lien and are lining up to score before Folau jacks someone with a bell ringer!

Alas it comes to nothing as the siren rings out after the play-the-ball and the Knights ruck it out for the win.

In a game that the Eels will surely be cursing themselves for losing, the Knights run out victors by four points!

Full Time

Newcastle dft. Parra 34-30

Well that game had it all: Abysmal officiating, brutal hits, short restarts and the customary point scoring and shitty defence we expect from the NYC.

Although Parra will be fuming that the Knights scored three tries on the back of two very, very dubious penalties and a video ref decision they really only have themselves to blame for the loss.

Stupid errors including letting a kickoff bounce instead of taking it with a foot on the line and repeated shoulder charge attempts from senior players Kelepi Tanginoa and Pauli Pauli really hamstrung the Eels in the second half.

Despite the loss there were some positives for the Eels. Ryan Matterson was very strong after the opening exchanges, scoring two tries and constantly opening up the Knights across the entire park. Leva Li would be exhausted after taking up a massive workload in getting the Eels out of danger as well as getting away some clutch offloads. Finally, Kaysa Pritchard was a whirlwind in defence - leading the way with mind blowing line speed and brutal first contact throughout the entire game.
