After a clinical opening to the game by our boys the game devolved into a very scrappy affair in the second half. There were still some strong individual efforts which I had pegged as such:

Kaysa Pritchard - Absolute warrior. He shares many of the key attributes with Nathan Peats that have supporters understandably gushing about recruit from South Sydney. Copped a few heavy knocks today but all the did was make him play harder before what was hopefully a heavy cramp finally saw him leave the field.

It would be a damn shame to lose this kid so hopefully he buys into serving an apprenticeship at Wenty before perhaps forcing his way into the NRL squad in the #14.

Kelepi Tanginoa - Shook off the cobwebs in his first prolonged hit out of 2014. Played on both edges with equally devastating impact, including helping lay on a try for Halauafu Lavaka with a brutal run and offload. With the solid triumph of the NRL team it does raise an interesting question as to which grade Tanginoa will lining up in come Rd.5 .

Fabian Goodall - Sparked a fair bit of discussion in this thread early on in the game on the back of his lightning quick brace of tries. He didn't see a whole lot of ball throughout the rest of the game but he made his runs count. I know it has been said before but Goodall is truly massive. He looks to be a project player but one that could reap serious dividends.

Ryan Matterson - I didn't have too many wraps on this kid coming into 2014. In his limited prior NYC games he had filled an awkward role off the bench where he struggled for impact in the game. The move to starting half has transformed him and now he is probably our best half and arguably our best player in the spine (alongside Pritchard). He produced a strong game today, kick starting a number of fluent backline moves on both sides of the field before finally shutting the Panthers out of the game with a try from a powerful run.

I'm not sure where his developmental ceiling stands so I will follow his progress with great interest this year.

Tepai Tepu-Smith - It was a raw effort today that included a couple of mistakes but he was very strong in the ruck. Looks to be our best front-row prospect in the current NYC rotation and still has another year of development in the NYC.

Solid showing on the left-edge. Helped Goodall on his way to his double and threatened the Panthers a number of times later but was just contained.

Despite our early success down the left, a lot of the worked movements were aimed to our right so Folau saw more ball than Davis.

Yeah you're right, he probably couldn't provide any depth to our forwards. He's probably forgotten how.

Lussick and Markus will both play hooker.

Matterson could be a good lock. He has the size of a forward, might have to put on 5 or so kgs but he definitely has the passing game to be effective in that sort of role. Also as we've seen over the first 4 rounds he's been a very effective runner of the ball.

I seen Wayne Francis was named in the Balmain SG Ball side for this weekend. Is this an error or did Parramatta release him?

You mean Wajih?

Yes, he seems to jump between Wajih and Wayne.

This young bloke is a highly talented forward. I have watched him progress over a number of years. He, Twal and Arcella led the way for the Parramatta pack to dominate in HM in 2012.

I know he has had some discipline problems on the field, but I'm suprised he started the year with Parramatta SG Ball and is now listed for Balmain.

Same old, same old....where would Balmain be without Eels juniors

half the kids in the Eels and Panfers area are on $500 Tigpies contracts, cast the net far enough and you will get some fish:)

Not quiet answering the question I asked, but in defence of Balmain and other districts - if, Parra want to play players out of position, of course, they will go to where they can play in their natural and club position.
