How about that Peter f**king Nolan hey? Most of these kids are only turning 19. It's a shame they weren't ready for first grade in 2011. Unfortunately the year before that the NYC side ran last, foreshadowing the fate of the NRL side a couple of years later.

Manly came last in NYC in 2013. Looking forward to the spoons coming their way in NRL.

Their strong NRL squad should keep them off the floor for a while but they are definitely on the decline as a club. Their NYC side were minor premiers in 2009 but the only players they needed to keep were Cherry-Evans and Foran.

They probably should have tried harder to keep Hopoate, Lussick and JWH but keeping their senior group together got them into grand finals in 2011 and 2013, winning one. Sometimes you have to choose short term success over sustainability, especially when you're short of cash, like Manly.

Yeah I guess there are many factors and not as simplistic as first seems.

But better chance of nrl success if you have a quality under 20 side

Absolutely. There are other factors but the key factor under the salary cap is the ability to replace the players you lose with cheap internal promotions.

The alternative is having to sign more expensive depth players like Webb and Whatuira, plus overs for first graders recruited from outside the club.

It's certainly better to have good junior teams rather than shit ones.

No it's essential. Which was the last NRL side to win a premiership without having a strong NYC team in the previous couple of years?

And do you think our NYC team missing the finals every year since 2008 had anything to do with our lack of depth and talent from 2010-2013?
