Hindmarsh : They don’t trust each other

:copyright: AAP Image/Paul Miller Nathan HindmarshParramatta legend Nathan Hindmarsh believes the current crop of Eels players turning out every week don't trust each other.

Hindmarsh played 330 matches for the Eels between 1998 and 2012 and also turned out for the Blues 17 times and Kangaroos 23 times.
Parramatta currently sit on the bottom of the NRL ladder, with no wins from their opening five matches.

They head to GIO Stadium to take on the Raiders in round six, who won their first match of the season against the Bulldogs in round five.

Hindmarsh was confident there were issues in the playing group that needed to be addressed, otherwise, they could be in for a long, old and unsuccessful season.

"A number of things. Confidence, trust is a big thing as well at the moment," Hindmarsh said on NRL360.

"You watch them play on the weekend, I don't think they are trusting each other out on the field.

"There might still be harmony with in the side, but if you don't trust the bloke beside you to do the job they're supposed to do, it's never going to work."

"I think that comes with confidence as well, each game they're not winning, their confidence is being hit again."

COREY NORMAN AND MITCHELL MOSES RELATIONSHIP

"I think I know as much as Normy and Mitchell Moses know themselves," Hindmarsh told Fox Sports News.

"The club is going really well apart from not winning games obviously but the team dynamic is stronger than ever and that's a great thing considering where they are on the ladder.

"Hopefully it will be different this weekend when they take on the Raiders."

REASON PARRAMATTA EELS HAVEN'T WON ANY GAMES
"Without putting the blame on anyone. Corey Norman has taken a lot of responsibility for the results so far, which I think is fair enough.

"He's our number one playmaker with Mitchell Moses. But also our wide running back rowers, they're not doing the job they need to be doing when it comes to hitting holes.

"Across the board, they're probably not playing where they need to at the moment. Nathan Brown showed what the club was trying to do against Penrith, showed a bit more aggression.

"Against Penrith, all the ball they had in the last 15 minutes, they couldn't capitalise on that possession. That to me is a worrying sign."

SHOULD PARRAMATTA HAVE SIGNED JARRYD HAYNE?
"Hayne's got some good football in him," Hindmarsh said.

"He is a great player on his day, he hadn't had the form that we are used to seeing at the Titans and obviously a lot of negative press around him at the Gold Coast.

"He is a quality player, and he didn't get too much time to prove himself.

"I'm happy with the way they bought him. They bought him on a one-year deal, got him for a lot less than what the Titans had him for."

IMPACT OF CLINT GUTHERSON
"I think he'll have immediate effects. The enthusiasm, the talk, the love of the game that Gutho brings to the side," Hindmarsh said.

"We'll see a different Eels side this weekend. We'll see a much more energetic side that are willing to chance their hand a little bit more.

"He's another mouth out there. We can't just rely on our two halves to do the talking."

DOES PARRAMATTA HAVE A CULTURE OF FAILURE?
"No, I don't think it's got a culture of failure," Hindmarsh said.

"We came close 2001, 2005 we were minor premiers, 2009 made the grand final.

"Obviously there was a little bit of a rough trot for the club where we changed coaches every one or two years. The board was in and out, a lot of distractions went on.

"I think now that Brad Arthur's there, they're a lot more settled. The club is moving in the right direction from what I'm hearing and seeing.

"I think it's not too far away, I was hoping it was going to be this year, it's looking very shaky this year to take out the premiership.

"A lot of people thought they were a chance this year. There's a long time to go in this season but I think they're heading in the right direction."

Struggling Parramatta Eels ready to clean out underperforming players at end of 2018, says The Mole

The under-performing Eels are preparing for a cleanout at the end of the season after paying massive ‘overs’ to sign Raiders prop Junior Paulo for 2019.

Paulo, a Kiwi who began his career at the Eels, is all but done on a four-year deal worth over $600,000 a season - money his current club Canberra simply couldn’t match.

Already dead and buried as a finals contender, the Eels are planning for 2019 and have several other big-name targets.

But that means players will have to go, and the club is set to cut up to 10 members of its current roster to complete a makeover for next year.

A host of big names, including Kirisome Auva'a, David Gower, Jarryd Hayne, George Jennings, Cameron King, Suaia Matagi, Kaysa Pritchard, Beau Scott, Peni Terepo, Siosaia Vave and Tony Williams are off contract and many will be told they are free to leave.

The Eels are also likely to offer other players who are under contract for 2019 to rival clubs to free up more space in the salary cap.

not worth $600K tho, assuming there is any truth in it
Considering a pillow like Woods is getting 1m and we ourselves are paying 400k for Evans 600k seems a pretty fair deal IMO. Plus he is exactly what we need a big body who can break the line with offloading ability.

Oh no ... brett kenny on fox league life ... wonder how many strips he will tear off the club
Bert's alright, he's harmless IMO, and for all the success and breathtaking footy he brought to Eels fans, I'm prepared to let him take a dump in the foyer of the leagues club if he wants. Still a winner in my books. Plus he's had a rough trot lately, let the man vent if he wants I reckon...
