Eels' Edwards sorry for attack on partner
Parramatta NRL player Kenny Edwards has been placed on a six-month good behaviour bond for spraying water and pouring alcohol on his former partner.
Edwards pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge of common assault at Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
Magistrate Theo Tsavdaridis said while he did not wish to trivialise domestic violence, the 27-year-old's action were "at the lower end of the scale".
"This is a young man who needs management and oversight rather than a conviction or punishment in the traditional sense," he told the court.
The incident happened after an argument, with Edwards spraying water from a bottle onto his ex-partner Madison Campbell's face and body.
He then poured an alcoholic beverage on her while she was in bed.
An intimidation charge against Edwards was dropped and no conviction was recorded but an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) was put in place.
Outside court, Edwards said he was sorry for his actions.
"I just want to apologise to my young family, to the club and to the NRL," he said.
