Parramatta Eels Rugby League Club has re-signed five players on contract extensions.

Brad Takairangi, David Gower, Ray Stone and Andrew Davey will remain with the Club next year, and Marata Niukore has extended his contract until the end of the 2022 season.

Parramatta Eels Club Head Coach Brad Arthur said, “We’re really happy to be in a position to retain our players. There’s a lot of NRL experience amongst them which is valuable to our young group of players, and for the juniors coming through.”

Brad Takairangi has played 168 NRL games, represented New Zealand and recently captained the Cook Islands team for the 2021 World Cup World Cup qualifier.

David Gower joined the Eels in 2014 and has played over 100 NRL games, while Marata Niukore made his first grade debut with the Eels last year, and with a solid 2019 season under his belt he has become a key forward in the team.

Ray Stone has played 7 NRL games since being elevated into the Eels first grade squad in 2018 after graduating from the Eels U20 grand final squad in 2017.

Andrew Davey was a key player in our Wentworthville Magpies team which reached the grand final this year, and was subsequently awarded the Bob O’Reilly NSW Cup Player of the Year at 2019 Ken Thornett Medal.

Yeah Arthur's was coach when we got the 2012 spoon. Poor bastard.

Then the next year Sticky only won five games! He can't coach!!!

I'm actually fairly certain Arthur is a better-than-average coach. The odd disaster season (like Parra running last, or the Broncos missing the finals) is out of the coach's hands. But in the past 20 years we have only won more than half our regular season games in 7 seasons ('00, '01, '05, '07, '16, '17, '19). Three of those were while Arthur was coach.
